So, I talked to my boss today...

He said he was going to have to let me go, because there wasn't enough money to keep me around. I asked if he had to reduce payroll, and he said no, that there was just going to be a difference in how the payroll money was distributed. I wonder if this has something to do with the new guy I've heard we're bringing in. Wish me and my family luck as we proceed with selling our house, moving into a homeless shelter, and generally trying to to survive somehow.
On a positive note, I'm hearing the new guy is going to get slammed now.

Happens a lot nowadays. They can hire some millennial living in their parents basement and pay him pennies on your dollar. Sure, they have to train him, etc., but they will also dump on him and can get a good decade or so out of him before he gets as expensive as an older employee. Then it will be his turn.
The other option they are doing is moving the jobs overseas, or hiring immigrants to do the work here...cheaper.
Gone are the days when you started at the bottom, worked for decades up the ladder, became well-paid, then retired with health care and a pension.
