2018 - The year Clemson outgrew the state rivalry

Nov 25, 2018, 10:22 PM

No offense to the Gamecocks who played hard for 60 minutes, but the Tigers Defense came into this game flat, and flat-out bored. The win was a given barring Tiger food poisoning.

Bentley and the Gamecock team played with guts & emotion and deserve credit. And TL16 played flawless ball like the mercenary that he is with little emotion needed to show his skill sets. And the Tiger's Defense let TL16 and the Offense carry them last night in a needed bit of a role reversal for this outstanding team and an improving Offense.

The Tigers know there is bigger game ahead this season - and they know they will need their elephant gun, and that smaller caliber could win this game. No doubt some Tiger corners, LB's and safeties sleepwalked and got burned in coverage - we found out Bentley, Deebo and Shi have some game.

But on 11/24/18, being the best on the field and staying healthy was the objective number 1 not "best is the standard". This was not a game to expend unnecessary emotional energy with three more games ahead compared to one for the Gamecocks. So the Tigers coasted a little, just like against Duke, but this time it was the Defense not the Offense that was not in synch.

A lot of work ahead for Tiger coaches and players to send the Power Rangers out with the goal they came back for - to win another big ring for each other and for history (and no worries, our thirsty boosters, alums & fans will also be there to cheer, celebrate and claim our share of the glory.)

P.S. The state rivalry will one day return. Hard to say when. Go Tigers!
