2014 looks to be a transition year...
Jan 6, 2014, 2:05 PM
|

I have seen some on here post that we will win 10 games next year. I certainly hope they're right, but I think that is wishful thinking.
We are losing our record setting QB, two starting WR's including a top 5 pick, starting RB, best OL, two starting LB's, best CB, and possibly our best DE and other starting LB. That is a lot to lose and going to be tough to overcome. I think we have talent and depth at most of those positions, but there is a reason why that talent and depth didn't start this year. I'm hoping for 8 wins in 2014 and anything over 8 is gravy.

@UGA - Toss up with them losing Murray SC St - Win GA St - Win SCar - Toss up being at home and their losing just as much
ACC: Louisville - Win with them losing Bridgewater and in Clemson NC St - Win UNC - Win Cuse - Win @BC - Win @GT - Win @FSU - Loss @WFU - Win
If we go 8-4 that would be a disappointing season.

I wouldn't chalk up UNC, BC or GT as wins.

We haven't played very well in Atlanta the past few years, UNC is going to be pretty good IMO and BC gave us fits this year and will only get better under Addazio. I'm just saying that we are losing a ton and you don't just replace those guys and remain as good in one year.

so outside of FSU, UGA, and SCar, we really shouldn't lose another game. At some point, though, we're gonna pull a Stanford and lose to someone we probably shouldn't.
At the same time, maybe we can win one of the "big 3".
9-3 should be the absolute worse we go next year.

Depends on where they put it on our schedule, but just don't see us winning it.
Georgia and South Carolina are both very winnable, Georgia will open as favored, could see Clemson favored against South Carolina.

Right, because projecting how you think your team will do is THE EXACT SAME THING as "hoping for failure."

I won't say 8-4 isn't close, but I like 9-3.
Still could be a good season.

Just look at fsu this year. Lost nearly all their star players including star qb and came in and whooped everyones ###. This was supposed to be fsu's rebuilding year, a lot of them had them finishing with somewhere around 8 or 9 wins.

UGA - Their Record setting QB, Lose 3 OL starters, starting TE and are still very young on D. Chances are we will win this. FSU - we probably lose this one, I hope we win but just realistically we will probably lose this Scar - Lose top DB, Clowney, Top WR, and their best QB of all time. We should win this game but the same can be said for the last 2 years. Bowl Game - Depending on who, but we have beat 2 top 10 teams our last 2 bowl games UNC? - lol no Anyone else? lol no

We will be better than people think. Mike Williams and Germone Hopper will be studs at WR not to mention we get the guy back that everybody is forgetting about in Charone Peake. We also have 3 4* WR coming in with Kitt, Scott, and Priester. TE will be Leggett and Seckinger. DJ Howard and Zac Brooks have shown promise if they can stay healthy and all indications point to Wayne Gallman being a complete hoss at RB. Deshaun Watson is going to be the key. Can he come in and win the job. This guy called his own plays in High School and totalled 17,000 yards and 219 TDs in 4 years passing and rushing. Hes the real deal. I watched his tape and his game is identical to Cam Newton's. Not very fast but agile and hard to bring down with a mean stiff arm. As far as D is concerned we have Shaq Lawson to fill Beasleys spot if he indeed does leave then that leaves a DL of Crawford, Jarrett, Lawson, and probably Carlos Watkins or DJ Reader at the other DT spot. LB wise we will have Anthony, and more than likely Ben Boulware will win one of the outside spots with Steward probably winning the other. Keep a eye on BJ Goodson though. I graduated with him and the dude can flat out play if he can stay healthy. Hes battled a concussion and a torn groin this year. DB spots will be Peters, Jenkins, and hopefully the key will be Alexander. If he pans out he will make us forget we ever lost Breeland. Then at safety we have Blanks, Kearse, and Robert Smith who will be a SR. We have more options than people think. Biggest ? to me is going to be at K where we have to replace arguably the most consistent kicker we've ever had. With that being said we have a ton of potential. And winning the final BCS Orange Bowl can only help in recruiting.
GO TIGERS!!!

Let's not forget unc will be starting a new qb that isn't the passer of brennar (sp)..GT will be replacing vad Lee as well and their best DE. Kelly or Watson needs to be a starter to give that running ability to make defenses account for that.

Also our DL will be nasty again with or without beasley..think of the depth we have with watkins back who was the starter. Watson and Grady back. Ebo could have a Lawson type impact next yr. Plus dane rogers for more depth..The LBS are loaded don't forget about Daniels who I think we be better than Christian was..secondary surely one of the redshirt cbs are as good as robinson has been...Surely ..safety position is set

And I think we've got some serious talent on board AND coming on board. Have we had as much depth at WR and RB in, say, 2 decades? We may not have the next Watkins or Spiller, but we won't lack the ability to make plays. We've got 3 great QBs who will not only duel it out in spring but can come in should the chosen start flounder.
Defense is the area that may not improve much, but it is relatively solid now.
The only game that is an almost impossible (but not impossible) win is FSU.
SCar without Shaw at home after a season of moving our newer guys around and developing all over is in our favor. UGA is a give or take. They have a new QB who so far doesn't look confident. Has talent, just not that extra like Murray had.
Every other ACC and OOC game is winnable to me.

I look it at like Wiggins will be better he got meaningful experience. As did boulware, goodson and jones back healthy. Steward a starter more than likely..TE experience for Leggett and bringing in richards..Crowder for OL..battle we be a star next yr mark it down.

Some phases , the 2014 team will be better.
I wouldn't put too much stock in losing Breeland. Theres probably more talent-less exp...behind him.
LINEBACKERS...if Anthony returns (and I haven't heard he was leaving early yet)...But,I like what the starting 3 could look like for 2014...Anthony at Mike, Jones at Sam and WILL is Steward.
RECEIVERS...a lot of talent there too; Mike Williams, Charone Peake and Adam Humphries leads a talented group along with Hopper,Priester,Kitt and ARTAVIS SCOTT...and maybe new comer,Trevion Thompson.
The RUNNINGBACKS are going be bigger and even better for the 2014 Squad. I expect to see a stronger running game next season.
QUARTERBACKS...yes,losing Tajh is tough. But 2 of the 3 Qbs battling for the starting job. Might be even better suited for Chad's offense.Soooo, see...
No worries.
Wins? IMO....right now, reg season 9-10.

I think we return more overall talent that Uga, and we will be better at QB. I saw nothing in their GT and Neb games to make me fear playing them. Plus, their def coach sucks. They did not improve on defense through the year.

I don't know about wishful thinking, but hopefully things won't be as bad as some think. Look at some of our competition. Ga. loses some key players including Aaron Murray. Carolina loses a lot key players including Clowney and Shaw. Ga. Tech is struggling under Paul Johnson and one key player( can't remember which one) is transferring. Louisville will have a new HC,and no Teddy Bridgewater. I don't know much about Wake,or State,or B.C.but we should be able to hold our own against most of our competition. So maybe things will not be as bad. Who knows maybe we go 9-3,but beat the coots.
