At some point, you have to go after the lower stars and develop them. While the 5 stars can bring attention, they can also bring drama. Not to mention the fact that they typically leave after 3 years, if not sooner.

It will be interesting to see if Monte takes note of this approach. While recruiting in baseball has been good on the surface, many of our recruits are going pro in baseball long before they set foot on campus. It may be time for Monte to take a page out of Dabo's recruiting playbook, and dial it back a little.

Sometimes less is more.

recruiting 4 and 5 star players, but even still, he has only won 5 Nattys in the last 9 years.

That's barely over 50%.

I think Dabo's strategy will gain us at least a 70% Natty rate over the next 10 years.

some of these 4 and 5 stars only stay for a month and then head out after stealing our playbook and learning the tiger system. if we solely focus on the 2 and 3 star, they will be happy to stay - better than playing at a smaller school. plus, we save money by not having to offer support by way of new cars and family loans (lutz - we will never see that money again) for all those stars.

tee is already costing too much as it is. probably got a better car than belk, so belk bailed. we sure cood save the heartache and dollars. maybe we loan some of our petty cash to monte??

I think Belk was good in the class room, but no way he "learned" the system in one spring camp. Obviously Dabo wasn't too worried about it either.
