I had a stress test with him in February Sat and talked between test for almost and hour. Nicest guy you ever met. Sad to hear this news. I guess I need to honor his request and get on donor list.

Remembering from his days at Furman-- he was a great passing Quarterback.

It was a marketing genius that came up with those commercials on the radio.

Sam Wyche, the imaginative and eclectic former head coach of the Bengals (1984-’91) and Bucs (1992-’95), died this afternoon in Pickens, S.C. after a short battle with metastatic melanoma. He was 74.

He went into hospice on Dec 30th & died this morning from melanoma. Wyche would have been 75 on Sunday.

I remember him as the backup qb on George Allen's Redskins in the '70s when I was a student at Clemson. Prayers for his family.

RIP coach.
"Wicky Wacky" is the reason Houston Oilers fans believed for so many years Jerry Glanville could lead our team to the Super Bowl.

I played Y football in Greenville when I was about 10 years old in the early 70's. The first day we showed up, Sam Wyche was there. At some point, I found my self standing with him in front of the cage at the bottom of the front stairs (Cleveland St. Y, old entrance), and he called me over and challenged me to take the ball out of his hand---his throwing hand, of course. I got one shot, put two hands on it and pulled, and failed.
That left quite an impression on me. So, 25 or so years later, when my oldest son was maybe 5 or 6, I issued to him the same challenge. I'm not a QB, but I am an athlete with very large hands. I was quite confident I could do to my son at 6 what Sam Wyche had done to me at 10: deny me the ball while holding it in one hand. My son put one hand on each end of the football, gave a little tug, and out popped the ball!
Because of that I respected Sam Wyche all the more. And I never tried that trick again with any other sons.
I would occasionally encounter him at Sam Wyche Sports World, and my experience is the same as already stated--he was a real stand-up guy. Nice as could be.
RIP, Sam Wyche.
