Have solar panels? My bill was $22 last month. All time low was $16. Highs are around $60-80. Bought them when SCE&G was going off the charts with rate increases. Wish I had a few more panels and the bastids would be paying me most months. Dominion is just a little sneakier. Return is not what the salesman said, like 8-9 years payback, but if I live another 10 or sell I hope to break even. Just the satifaction is worth it to me.

I wonder how that would fair with a tropical storm-Cat 2 hurricane? And who fixes those things if you have a hail storm?

Yep, that's me! But mine are in the backyard, not on the roof. And I still have room to drive around it pulling my 22' ft. boat.

Just cover all the windows with black construction paper. And by doing it right I mean by doing it as much like a poor as possible.

10 year payback seems like an awfully long time to me....

for an investment.
What was your motivation/justification for installing them?
Do you have enough battery storage to last through the night during a power outage?
With a bill of $22, you must be selling to the utility during the day and buying from them at night?

Was cottdayum SCE&G (trying) building a nuclear plant and making me pay for it.
No batteries but not really worried about prolonged power outages since live about a mile from the maintenance operations. Even so, I do have a 100 amp/hour LiIon battery with solar panels, portable generator, all the camping equipment and food to last for weeks. And a cabin in the country for fall back location that is strategically defensible and self sufficient.
It is a long payback in some respects but I was just going to blow it on something anyway. I think it raised my property value some. And, like I said, just the satisfaction of making me a little less dependent on being totally at the mercy of the rate increases. The more the rates go up the faster the return.

Strongly considered this

They were only offering 4 year warranty or whatever and 9 year payoff.
So for 5 years, If something happened to the panel (hail storm, tree falling etc) It would cost me 20k per panel to fix.
Told them no thanks.
I'll stick to my coal oil lantern
