carnet: what are motor mounts and are they actually needed?

Apr 8, 2021, 10:19 AM

so I got this sweetass ride, a 2003 Acura TL that ONLY has 170k miles (I put 60k on it in the last 2.5 years) and the mechanic techs said my motor mounts are cracked and need to be replaced. OK, that is fine, but the problem is they want to do it for around $2k for a car that is worth $1k.

Can I get it done for alot cheaper somewhere else?
If I don't do it, will my engine fall out or worse?
Anybody want to help me do it? I can come to where you are as long as you are east of the Mississippi river.

Thanks.

Obed®

$2k for motor mounts?

I think there are a couple on top of the engine you can do yourself. I can't imagine replacing all of the mounts being more than 3 hr job.

Yes--look somewhere else.

I dunno, but it holds the engine in place. Sounds important.

replaced for I think $500-$800.

It's just little rubber #### that probably costs $4 per part.

Trouble is I think they have to pull the motor to replace them. Or something like that.

No need for them. Just tie a rope around the engine to

Apr 8, 2021, 10:49 AM

and fix it to the frame so the engine doesn't fall out when you're driving.

You could take the quote and take it to your insurance agent and request the car be totaled and collect the money. Your call.

It looks pretty simple. Shop around. Should be a couple hundred IMHO.
