"The USA's fraught relationship with Iran has been irrational for decades"

Lololololololol. I guess they get another pass for killing Americans?

You know their drone program was financed by Bammy and Brandon’s pallets of cash. Idiots.

Answer me this...

Why do you think we still have any feet on the ground in Syria, even though the Syrian government has asked us to leave (for years)?

Y'all got all worked up about balloons above our airspace, but you think having military forces (and contractors) in a country that doesn't want them there is just peachy? Iran and Syria are allies. Are you really surprised that this happened (it has happened before, btw).

You were asking about defining our participation in Ukraine more clearly. Are you okay with us in Syria? For how long? Do you have an end-game in mind? Nah, you probably didn't even know we had anyone over there.

Next time you want to troll me, try harder.

Why don’t you explain why we need boots on the ground. I thought Biden was president… no?

Are you asking me?

Obama sent them there during the period when Assad was using chemical weapons against his own people. (Talk about the olden days) we actually had an agreement with the Russians to occupy a base to monitor things and deter chem weapon use. Obviously the situation in Syria is bad post-Assad crackdown. Trump said he'd pull them out but didn't and, after a strike against Americans in (I believe) 2017, used our forces to respond (this is not a criticism of Trump - just a statement of what happened under his administration) and the same has basically happened now with Biden. But the reason we are there (around 1,000 people) has long since passed. Syria has asked us to leave. Russia (a couple of years ago) asked us to leave, as the reason for the agreement was no longer the heart of the matter.

Indefinitely leaving US soldiers in a country that is not an ally, where we are not wanted, is asking for trouble. I don't care who the President is. After this week, Biden, like Trump before him, will just leave them there in a show of strength. Wash, rinse, repeat. It's bad policy. Do you agree?

I hope that answers your question.

Because your such a Richard about most things you respond with I have to first point out how you all the sudden don’t care who the president is when you’re trying to wash over that detail!

But yes, I agree it’s horrible policy. It’s got CIA written all over it to me. They are trying to bait Iran with our soldiers to make gains for the military industrial complex.

I am not afraid of going to war IF there is a just reason, reasonable ROE’s, and a clear endgame. If these conditions aren’t met- I don’t support the efforts. WWII is the last war I believe meets those standards.

If the US government used weapons against its own people would another country intervene? What gives Obama a pass? You only see hypocrisy when it fits your narrative. That’s why no one believes anything that you clowns spew!

I didn't give anyone a pass, so there is no reason to have a tantrum in your determination to make this partisan.

The Syrian use of Sarin on its own people resulted in the death of nearly 2,000. There was nearly world wide condemnation of the actions. The UN had an investigative team there that had clear conclusions. Other western nations and Russia sent military into the region. If you recall, there was debate about direct military intervention, which the UK and US supported - Obama and his "line in the sand". This was scaled back toward a military "presence." The US and Russia came to an agreement on how best to rid Syria of chemical weapons (which got Assad to sign the Chemical Weapons Convention) but part of the military activity carried out amongst all of these parties, we established a base in rebel controlled territory. (There is also a Russian naval base in Tartus.)

People can debate whether or not we should have gone in there - when there is worldwide condemnation of atrocities, and we are one of the most vocal 'condemners,' and we have the largest military on the planet, one can presume we will lead the way. But one can reasonably expect us to not still be there after nineteen years.
