What happens now will define Dabo's tenure at Clemson.

Coming off one of his worst seasons since Tajh Boyd was QB, a lost DC and likely a lost OC, not to mention a lost AD, the Clemson football program has fluidity all around except for Dabo and his assistants.
If Dabo doesn't keep the success going, everyone will attribute all of the success to Venables. If he sustains success, he'll show his value. Staying power with turnover defines a dynasty.
Can he do it?

I hope Dabo can do it but i’m afraid he is too nice and will make a safe hire and hire from within the program. This will be his downfall. I hope I am wrong. He needs a proven OC and DC within a week to keep players and recruits.

Absolutely look at the BV hire. Now look at Elliot without Jeff Scott. Big elite programs go get the guy they want up and comers promote. Alabama doesn’t promote from within. They bring in guys who are proven and want to be HCs

within. It's a working business model as well. It can work.
The OP is correct, this will basically define Dabo's legacy. But you have to trust him. He's led us to the most successful run in program history, by far, so you have to give him the benefit of the doubt to ultimately make good decisions.

He hired Brent that’s what got us those championships. Elliott was carried by Jeff Scott but also had 2 generational QBs that would make anyone look good. Hiring from within rarely works. Again if Dabo does I hope it works out.

Brent was a key member of the program's success, like any coordinator at a successful program, but the prolific offense that Tony Elliot has been the primary playcaller for for 6 years has been just as big towards that success. There's no evidence at all to say Jeff Scott "carried" the offense. The 2020 team had the best passing offense in program history. And there are many teams with equal or better talent, but there aren't two better programs than Clemson. That's due in large part to the prolific offense. Please provide the data behind, "hiring from within rarely works".

It's going to be a Co-DC if it's going to be internal. You can't throw all the chips in on an unproven guy. I think Conn is one of those two. Bates/Conn or Reed/Conn. Conn in the booth and Reed/Bates as the on field face and voice of the defense.

I agree. Is "the best to come"? Or is losing BV too much for Dabo to successfully transition in one or two seasons?
Dabo, like Ford, will always have a legacy at Clemson. But will the Dabo story have many more chapters? Replacing BV's expertise, leadership and energy will be a challenge.
I'm hoping to see Joe Brady and Bronco Mendenhall or other 1st class OC and DC options pull into campus. And I have a positive feeling Dabo will surprise us with some clever hires instead of coasting on laurels.

He needs a big hire. Dabo is not a coach but a CEO. He needs good hires around him to make him look good. Hopefully he learned from the offensive side of the ball that friends and business don’t mix. He has a week to figure this out. He has the money and resources to do it let’s see if he uses them.

Come on....not a coach? REALLY? Dabo is and will always be the Coach first. If he hires from within, he may have to step up a little more than in the past with BV but remember, this staff has been together for a long time.

I figure the National Championships will define Dabo's tenure here. Flags Fly Forever and all that. That said, whether Dabo adds to his ring collection will definitely depend on the decisions he makes this offseason. Does he refresh the program with new blood or promote from within? We'll see, and I'm glad I can be here for the ride. Go Tigers.

I think 2 National Championships have defined his tenure so far. I trust he will figure it out. He's always about the right things. Even if I get frustrated with him sometimes.

Agree completely. I just posted something like this a little while ago. My concern centers around complacency and willingness to change or adapt, even if it was a winning formula at one point. The sport is different than it was 13 years ago and it looks to be vastly different in the next 5-10. -Willingness to start Cade game 1 if he’s more talented? -Seriously consider transfer portal? -Go easy on handing out scholarships on feel good stories and coaches sons? -Consider hiring the best DC available, even if it is not from within? These, and many other items, have been discussed ad nauseum on these boards. I hope they are at least considered by the Dabo and staff, even if they decide to stay the course. It’s always hard to give yourself an honest look in the mirror

This right here. I feel a former HC that’s not afraid to tell Dabo how it is and maybe give him new insights on the changing landscape of college football.

Dabo will guide the program, and it won’t be the dynamic you dramatically paint,
He’ll listen with humility to those who’s opinion he values, deliberate, and make a guided choice.
No one has any true idea what that will look like; internal, external, or nocturnal.

It's not like Dabo has been blindsided. I'm sure he has planned a long time for different situations including losing multiple coaches in the same year. Dabo has built a strong foundation that will prevail in the coming years.

God what a bunch of Betas.. Geez BV took a better job. Will we lost players, probably.. Can Dabo prevent that? Absolutely not. Trenton for instance just had his position coach leave - I imagine he is one hurting young man. There are most likely more. BV has been here a long time.
Stop questioning every breath Dabo takes and support the D** Tigers, or get off the frickin bus. This board is a travesty to CU.

This is just the next evolution in Clemson football. The one constant is change whether it is coaches, players, etc. Clemson Football is a strong brand and will be alright.
