He should do pretty good. In a conference where there are only one or two big games a year and I would think he will recruit well enough to be competitive there.

You are assuming he can recruit.
Penn State is the only major program in PA so not much competition for recruiting.
Va Tech is not the same situation at all.

and quickly locked him up as their coach. Franklin had some problems getting over the champion "hump" at Penn St. but he won a lot of games and recruited some good talent. VA Tech is in dire need of a program overhaul and by all indications - Franklin has a track record of successfully getting bad teams to the winning side of the ledger. Solid hire for VA Tech IMO...

has shown he can build a football program into a consistent winner. His championship resume may be thin but look at VT's resume since 2014 - it hasn't been near as good as Franklin's. It's not like VT is going to lure away some hot Power 4 coach right now to come to their particular dumpster fire.
So you don't have to be all enamored with Franklin to see that he is a solid hire especially when you consider who's doing the hiring. IMO, the Franklin hire is the best case scenario for VT considering the coaching carousel madness that is going to be happening over the next couple of months.
Having said all that - I do look forward to Clemson whipping Franklin's VT whenever we may meet...
