Saw we are ranked 37th in scoring defense and 6th in total D

Does anyone know if they account for points from pick 6's? I know they can't account for points off turnovers, if they could, the defense would be ranked a lot higher in scoring D.
I still think Wes is learning. Too many guys out of position during ND's big runs Saturday but hopefully he will get better at teaching discipline.

absolutely can't hold that on the defense...I thought Woodaz did a great job on his tackle of the 260lb. ND Running back...but it is dang near impossible to hold them from the two yard line.

Every point scored on our team is counted in scoring defense no matter how it’s scored. Just the way it is.

They do. All points count for scoring defense. Pick sixes, fumble returns, special teams, all that counts against a defense. So if Shipley fumbles it in our territory, allowing an easy field goal, that goes against the defense.

Yep. 6th in total D is a pretty strong stat no matter how you are counting it. I was no fan of the hire but you gotta give credit where credit is due. Hard to argue with the results.

Scoring D includes all points scored by opponent.

You are correct, the 37th ranked scoring D stat is misleading. It would be higher.

If we had your O and you had our D, we could take on the world.

Yes they will and they deserve it. Not sure how’ll they do but they deserve in if they win out.
Louisville will give them a game IMO. Do they get in with a loss? Does the winner of that game get in if Louisville wins out?

Unless chaos reigns, we won't get in with a loss.

If we finish with one loss (either regular season or Charlotte) it is doubtful we would get in. Too many one loss teams would pass us.
Michigan, Ohio State, Bama, Texas, Oregon would pass us even if we won the ACC.
Louisville would certainly pass us if they beat us in Charlotte.
We have our two biggest rivals left on our schedule. The good news is they both seem to be moving in the wrong direction for them (but the right direction for us - downward).

Would agree Bret. I think you get by both Miami and UF.
Little less certain about Louisville and UK. But if both get to Charlotte undefeated, the winner gets in IMO.

I saw they were ranked 35th this morning tied with Liberty giving up 191 total points for a 21.22 average. That doesn't give any credit for the 73 points due to turnovers and sometime resulting 2 yard drives

100% just for fun, not trying to make any kind of point here.
If you removed all the points of TOs, that would drop the ppg to 13.1. If you took only half of it away, it's like 17 ppg. Just things to ponder upon the porcelain.

But, on the other hand, when the D scores...

... or gives you a short field, those points count for ppg average as well.

Heard Ellis Johnson talking earlier this year. He made a great point

he said scoring D is a team stat not a defensive stat. YPG/YPP/3rd down % are D stats. He said if you have a big difference in scoring d ranking and where you were with true D stats then you knew you had problems in other areas of your team (offense, special teams). Such has been our case.
