Saw him at a sorority formal back in early 90’s

It was one of those destination formals, I think somewhere in the Smokies. Not sure.

Regardless they had booked Gilbert do an hour after the dinner. And the dude was actually quite cerebral and I thought hilarious. None of the stupid schtick and weird voices (though his voice is unique). His act was more along the lines of Dennis Miller and Norm Macdonald

Needless to say - he bombed overall. I think the jokes went over most heads. That or folks were just waiting for him to finish his act so dancing and boozing could begin in earnest.

Any, check out some of his stand ups and give them a shot.
