Random football thought: With the advent of NIL, will there

soon come a time when SMU will rise to national prominence in football once again? The NCAA literally killed their football program with the Death Penalty, cancelling their 1987 season, and when everybody transferred, SMU could not field a team for 1988 as well. They are just now working back toward at least being respectable on the field.
The violations that killed SMU would be small change in the current NIL world. Think those SMU Boosters are still out there, and ready to "Run it Back" to the days of the Pony Express?
Interesting Note: While SMU IS the only Football Program to ever be given the "Death Penalty" by the NCAA, they were NOT the only SCHOOL to receive it.
Kentucky basketball got it in 1952-53 University of Southwestern Louisiana (now known as Louisiana Lafayette) got it in basketball from 1973-75. Divison II Morehouse College got it in Mens Soccer in 2004-05. And, Division II MacMurray College got it in Mens Tennis from 2005-07. Who knew that Division II was so cutthroat!
