Revenue, key word, "revenue" is "shared" even with non-revenue sports? Doesn't the word share imply that you have something to share?

The athletes share their talent and effort without which there would be no revenue.

Without fans there would be no revenue other than tv and if fans didn't watch on TV there would be no fans period.

Good point. How much should fans expect to have refunded?

Choosing not to watch on tv is a very powerful tool we have but rarely use.

for decades. And yes, these droves increase with better talent on the field. But the point remains, even bad Tiger teams get support.

It makes no sense if your sport generates $0, there is nothing to share

The university shares the money earned by football...

... among the sports that don't earn the revenue. I made a comment in another reply to this thread, so I'll leave it at that.

The universities already use money on those sports

Football players must be paid for the work they do and the money they earn for the university. That's only fair.

But, the universities must take some of the money earned by the football players and distribute to those athletes who need the money but don't generate the income that football players do.

"From each according to his ability, to each according to his need." I've seen that quote somewhere (wink, wink) and now we are seeing it enacted.

I think forcing schools to do this redistribution of $$ to non-rev is wrong***

I'm not sure an athlete on scholarship in any sport "needs" anything.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Unfortunately, you and I don't get to determine that.

I don't think a college graduate should have his student loans forgiven.

I don't think any athlete needs anything more than a full scholarship.

I think the purpose of an athletic scholarship is to pay for the student educational expenses to allow him the opportunity to earn a college degree.

Players don't make the money. The organization makes the money. The players wouldn't make any money on their own. If the players had to pay for all of their benefits, they would have to take out student loans and be in debt for the rest of their lives. It's time to appreciate what the athletes, especially the football players, are GIVEN through university and fan support. Football players are GIVEN LOADS of money.

Schollys aren't fair market value.
So says the Supreme Court.

"Nowhere else in America can businesses get away with agreeing not to pay their workers a fair market rate on the theory that their product is defined by not paying their workers a fair market rate".
