the number of scandals and issues they have had at that university on many levels. Their next President and AD hires mean everything to the direction of that place. Tom Jurich was probably as good a AD as anyone in the country, but he was a POS as well and his backroom ethics cost him dearly.
With the right leadership that can rally the boosters again, they can get it rolling. They have big time money in that program from corporate people in the area who didn't even attend the university...they are just fans bc they live there and its the 'thing to do'. Many left with the prior AD, but they are rallying again.
If they want Pearl and can get him hired before a President or AD is named, then its a done deal. Pearl would leave AU without question. I think one of his life goals is coaching at Indiana, Louisville or Kentucky....somewhere that basketball matters year round and you are the face of the university.
If the AD is hired prior, then there is no telling. May be Kenny Payne if a certain individual is hired there. The logical people know they dont need another headache but the whole reason all of this exists is money and the people that give it will probably get what they want.

Louisville for West Va. Seems like both leagues and both programs would be better off. I wonder if such a thing is contractually possible.

If Auburn is a small town then Clemson is a wide spot in the road. Don't blink your eyes or you will miss it. Clemson is getting way to many red lights. Some people might consider that progress, but not me.
