You ask coaches to vote and promise it is confidential until the end of the season.
Any good coach will say what they think they need to in order to motivate his team. Who knew that USA would go back on its word to publish the poll. If you were a coach, would you say something that is promised to be a secret until the end of the season - only to have that secret told to all.
We will probably start seeing many other coaches stop voting, or start to tell what many writers have always thought, that the SID's are doing the voting for the coaches.

It's a bogus poll anyway. Why even give it this much print.

The vote is anonymous unless and until you publicly misrepresent it. He did, so they set the record straight.

They did not break their confidentiality agreement

The agreement stated that they have the right to reveal the vote if a coach voluntarily misleads people about how he voted. Kiffin voluntarily stated that he would not vote USC #1 when in fact he did. That statement gave USA Today every right as part of their agreement to set the record straight. I'm glad they did, there's no reason nor any place for lying about voting.
