it would just be 4 sec automatic bids while the other four conferences battle for the last 4 remaining slots..honestly pac 10, big 10, big 12 and acc should band together and form their own leauge and let the sec just battle each other.

No it wouldn't because of teams like Notre Dame or Ohio State. Add to it there were not 2 other SEC teams as good as an Oklahoma or say Oregon this year.
If they do expand to 8 it should be the power 5 conference champions + 3 at large which could include teams like Cincinnati but not Notre Dame unless they play for a conference championship. No team should get a bye of any kind.

Any 8-team scenario has always been based around the idea of all 5 conference champs automatically qualifying, with a limit of two teams from any one conference. Otherwise, yes, it would be an obvious, total farce.
