Do you remember the television show ER around 2003 or so (with George Clooney and others)? On that show the doctors and nurses use these roll around computer stations. My former company did all of the plastic on those stations for a company in real life. Hospitals all over the country were using them for a few years. Some of these stations were donated to the TV show ER for them to use... publicity.
Another thing we made, that I think is the coolest, is the F-16 ejector seat used on the 1st Iron Man movie. When Iron Man collides with USA F-16, the pilot has to eject. His parachute won't deploy and Iron Man flies in and deploys it manually. You can see the ejector seat we made on that scene.
Also when AT&T changed their logo back around 2003, we made all of the initial prototypes which were shown on TV all over the world.
There were a few other things we made which were visible to the public (like the Nations Bank logos and the SunTrust Bank logos which were on all of their signage), but most things we make are not seen by the general public.

The things you make that are not not seen by the public are things I like to imagine are dirty. I know they aren't but it's funnier to imagine them that way.

I used to work for a hospital that used the computer rolling stations.

They were called computers on wheels but rather than say that the doctors and nurses referred to them as abbeviated COWs until someone actually filed a lawsuit because they heard the doctor say bring that cow in here and thought that he was referring to them. smh

I understand that kind of pride. It’s a blessing to work in a field where you can see the fruits of your labor. I was a builder for 20 years before I entered the psychology field. I used to point out the homes I built. Some were spec (speculation-I put up my own money without a buyer) houses but most were landowners ready to build their dream home. I can still feel a sense of pride every time I drive by something I built or designed.

My wife is a graphic artist and has designed many logos for companies in our area from radio stations to about any type of business you can think of. She loves showing me those designs and I can see the sense of accomplishment he work gives her.

I was retired for a few years. It can be tough for the first few weeks or even years. I started to love it until I felt the calling to go back to school and help addicts in recovery lead a successful life. I hope your retirement is great and you have many years to enjoy yourself.

Those behind the scenes products are sometimes much more necessary and can be very lucrative. My father in law worked for a company called AMP Incorporated for many years. They made connectors for all manner of electronics. I had not heard of the company until my wife and I started dating but once I knew what they did and started looking at these types of connectors, they were EVERYWHERE. He had huge contracts with companies like Motorola and Phillips back in the 80s. But seeing your products in a movie has to be a great thrill. One of the plants I managed was used in the movie Bad Boys II but that is a story for another day.

When I was with Woven Electronics, AMP was one of out biggest suppliers. I had to go to Harrisburg, where their main office was, to discuss a new connector we needed them to make. AMP was a first class organization. While I was up there, they found out my wife was pregnant with our 1st child (daughter), and they gave me a big crystal Hershey's kiss to give to my wife. They later sent me an engraved silver picture frame with my daughter's name, weight, and birth date. We still have that frame from 1994.

Would be really funny if you knew my father in law. We will discuss when we get together. He worked in sales out of Harrisburg for a while but I think he moved from Harrisburg to Knoxville in the early 1980s. He finished out his career with them in Atlanta and retired in about 1995 or so.
