further, before they have even actually HAD the first expanded Playoff, why do they want to stop at 14 teams, instead of 16, which would make the most sense?

Then I laughed at myself, because the answer is so typically SEC and BIG. They want their league Champion to automatically make it to the 2nd round without having to play a game in the first round. That first round bye is the only way to ENSURE that happens every year. Self serving greed at its finest, right there.

Of course! It's all about power and money. (At least when the SEC makes a move, they just do it. They didn't try to hide behind a so-called alliance to cover their upcoming power moves.)
