Honest Legal Question - Pay for Play

Is it not contract law when a student signs for a scholarship to play a sport and to receive tuition, room and board, meal plans and nutritional coaching and supplements, as well as elite training (not to mention tutoring)? Are they not willingly entering in to an optional agreement?
What would a package like that be worth if the average student was to be afforded?
My other question. If I was a student in a science lab and I discover or invent something, the school retains the rights to it, correct? having provided the environment and facilitated the opportunity.
I know the courts have considered impact of rulings on society over the years, is it possible that their decisions have been short sighted as it relates to college athletics?

It is a very tentative agreement at best. The letter of intent is about the only enforceable part of the process. Even that has a way to be dissolved if signed too soon. There have been windows to dissolve the contract made by courts called the transfer portal. Yes, the perceived worth of a Clemson Football scholarship is over $500k and closer to $750k for four years. Once tuition, books, tutors, housing, nutrition, meal ticket, training, stipends, and many other items are factored in.
I believe that scholarships should be yanked as of today. Players are paid well enough that the free ride can now be paid by the athlete using revenue sharing and NIL dollars. Perhaps this is the only way to equal out the financial losses the NCAA has cooked into the game. I kinda foresee a tiered league like European Futbol on the horizon. Only the elite haves will retain the top league status and the have nots will be fighting for relegation to keep competition fair. No more UCF or Boise State giant slayers. Those days are gone. The game we love is about to become a different animal.

Not even. The value of a scholarship is around $145,000, max, per Clemson Insider.

without penalty.
Another byproduct of the NCAA's previous, illegal sports model.

If you discover something it depends on whether or not you have copyrite benefits...if you own the lab it is yours but you will have to file it...most universities have the full or partial rights to things produced on their campus! The is sharing for some professors and others employed mostly for research! Several countries will copy anything..CCCP and Russia...Italy was once that way?

So for a while we will have student-athletes making considerably more than professors who are educating them?

If a contract is illegal, you can't enforce it.

So it’s illegal for a student athlete to sign in exchange for a full ride scholarship?
