This is why he has to be gone..
We start out well like we always do.
We get to halftime and the opponent adjusts and we don’t.
In the 2nd half we give it up.
It’s not just that the defense is worn down in the 2nd half it’s that we don’t adjust at all and the opponent does.
ND has adjusted to the quick crossing routes which are man beaters since we’re bringing heavy pressure… just like the 1st half.
Goodwin changes nothing.

This!!! Without this defense we'd have two wins instead of four. Overall he's done a good job. Our defense is ranked in the top ten overall and I'm several categories.
Some people never played the game and they certainly never coached and it shows.

The Wes bashers on here pretty much beg to be ignored on the other insights and expert wisdom offered up. They're BV cultists largely who somehow placed more adoration on a man and his sideline antics than performance and results. Don't get me wrong - Venables was an excellent DC for us and another great hire by Dabo. His defenses were championship level year in and year out, much like this year's.
I wonder if the OP was as livid with Venables after his D gave up 24 points to Bama in the 4th quarter of the '15 natty game, obviously when we needed it the absolute most and couldn't quite seal the deal?

Yep they finally started playing. I have no problem admitting it was early to call for it but I still think Goodwin should be gone.
1 game doesn’t change anything and that’s assuming we hold on.
We’ve also had them pinned inside their own 10 the whole second half.
Their average field position in the 2nd half is their own 8 so of course it makes it easier to play defense bc someone in this very thread told me the situation matters and it’s obtuse not to think so.

Goodwin has a top 10 defense and is just now figuring out what he has and what his style is. His D held them to fg's in the first half os the only reason we won!! I think Goodwin is doing a very good job. No one is BV. But BV wanted to take him to Oklahoma to be DC and Dabo said no so BV took Roof. That says a lot also
