the football players only actually participate in 3 of those

they are comparing vastly differing "traditions"......what the band does, or an animal, shouldn't be in the same league with a team participatory thing.

Why this list is useless

Wisconsin's Jump Around, started in 1993 (yes, you read that right, 1993) is ranked ahead of the Rock. I think not.

And the ND sign is neither of those IMO. It's really pretty lame and probably only on there b/c it's ND.

but I don't see how piped in music and the fans reacting to it even counts as a tradition.

should be a big one. Coot's 0-21, tearing down the goal posts for every win, and the 3rd quarter exodus ( which we are soon to revive).

I have watched the rum down The Hill many times but last Saturday should have bumped it up higher than 9. It was shown in a different light for me personally. I guess we need to add orange smoke with the orange balloons, now.

Pathetic list. Check out the article comments though.

It's hilarious to see Gamecock fans posting their disbelief over the fact that their entrance to 2001 wasn't included. Same goes for Virginia Tech fans not understanding why their entrance to "Enter Sandman" isn't also there.
Running onto the field through fake fog, while piped-in music plays over the loudspeaker, is lame. I also realize that we are spoiled because of our truly awesome tradition of rubbing the rock and running down the hill.

Re: FSU:Did Seminole Indians actually ride horses very much?

In most cases, Eastern Indians seem to be depicted as traveling and fighting on foot.
I thought that the horse was mainly used by plains Indians.
Can anyone verify one way or the other?

involved in how the Seminole mascot is outfitted and portrayed (and, I believe, gets a cut of all merchandising). Central Florida, where the Seminoles really lived, is still today very agrarian so I'm sure they had horses, though they weren't likely known as "horse warriors" like the Apache's and some others were.

Ohio St is #1? EVERY school's band spells stuff out. We spell Tigers and dot the "i" - how is that any different? No way Ohio St is even in the top 10. Same with Notre Dame's sign. Every school has some variation of that. The Rock is similar in that it's for good luck and all, but the back story is a LOT better than "Lou found it in a closet and stuck it up on the wall." And Jump Around? What a joke.
Now some I'll give you are great (though none better than ours!): Army-Navy - how can you not like that? Colorado - a live buffalo running on to the field? Too cool. Auburn - the War Eagle is just cool. Fla St - I HATE FSU, but I gotta admit, Chief Osceola riding out on Renegade and planting the flaming spear is pretty cool and a big crowd pleaser. Definitely unique in CFB. Texas A & M - cool history behind that Oklahoma - the Schooner is just cool. Hawaii - never seen it, but sounds pretty slick and pays tribute to the island's heritage.
But all in all, I honestly think ours is the best. When you look at the whole picture, like ABC/ESPN did last weekend - from leaving the tunnel to hitting the field - nothing compares when it comes to motivating the team AND the fans. Truly unique, traditional and just cool.
