Fish story

So, I am fishing on Lake Greenwood, and catch a 5.8 pound catfish... 30 minutes later, we pull up to the campsite, and a rainbow appears, almost marking the spot where I caught the fish... You would have thought that would have happened the other way around!

Nice lure you caught the cat with, I have always just used hooks.

That was the clamp on the scale, it holds better than a hook!

I've tried clothespins as lures. Not had much luck.

boat motor

I fish from a small pontoon and have the motor mounted like yours. Mostly I troll. For years had a 36v motor. When it gave out dropped down to 24v -- big mistake.

Do you also troll on Tnet? LOL!
Our pontoon is only 18 foot. Our Minnkota is a 12 volt with 55 lbs thrust. We can get about 4 mph with the trolling motor alone, which works for my wife and I...

Matched right a trolling motor can push/pull at 5mph. The 36v could do that. The deal here is the wind gusts which can push a boat with lesser thrust power to the bank. The 24v seems OK as to that, but for some reason can only do near 3mph. That is fast enough, but I think it may be flawed as it should be able to do 5. I use 4 batteries, maybe I have them wired wrong?

Not sure about your info...this is the first motor boat we ever had...got it last year. Did some research about the motors. It seems the 55 lb thrust would be enough. We never really have tried to see what we could do...I know I had 4 mph once, but was not there for long, so may do better. We had some wind on the day I caught the catfish, and other times, the trolling motor kept us where I wanted it. We only have one battery, and it usually lasts about 4 days of fishing. It is, of course, dedicated to the trolling motor and fish finder... What thrust is your motor rated at?

Trolling motors are not about speed but thrust power. Top end is never more than about 5mph no matter the thrust rating. Thrust does not mean speed, but more as to torque.
20 years back had a 55#, and here on Hartwell it was a bust in wind gust. I moved up to the 112# and all was good for years. The 80# I have now should do the job, but it is much less. This one is over $2k ($3k with matching fish finder) and it is good, but less than what I had.
I use the outboard maybe 10% as opposed to the trolling motor.

Yes, we were camping there...had gone out to far away places...it looked like rain, so headed back. When we got to that point, it looked like the rain would hold off for a little longer, so stopped and caught the catfish right away! Then headed for the campsite (109). We were on the campsite when I took the rainbow pic, and you can see the Bimini top on our boat at the bottom of the rainbow pic. The point where I caught the fish was behind the branch of the tree the rainbow was pointing to...

Greenwood State Park...

used to have a great swimming area and a putt putt course on Seaboard Avenue. All of that is long gone now. We used to play softball and ultimate frisbee in that field right behind the gate and admissions shack. That was long before the Drummond Center was built.
Really interesting story about the small stone wall to the right of the entrance to the park. The Civil Conservation Corps (CCC) started construction on the entrance wall in the fall of 1941 but stopped after Pearl Harbor was attacked on December 7th so they could deploy to fight. The CCC never returned to finish it so the rock entrance wall remains unfinished as a symbolic reminder of what happened that day.

We used to go to Hunting Island all the time. After the hurricanes demolished it, we had reservations there, and they closed. They said we could transfer the reservations to another park. We transferred to Greenwood, and have been going back ever since. We have/had 8 trips reserved just since July! We have two more left. Last year, we bought the boat, so Hunting Island rarely comes into the picture now!

"Hillbilly Hand Fishin"

Being a RedNeck have done that many times.
Two ways -> -- walk in a creek and reach under the bank hoping what you grab is not a snake. -- in a lake walk and find old tires with your feet, go under and pull them up. Catfish would live in them. Wateree was full of old tires.

Done both of those. It sucks when you dump a tire full of baby catfish (1000's of them) and they are impossible to pick up. The sun bakes them and well.......mmmmm, the aroma. First catfish I ever noodled was in 1996, 48 inches and 59.5 lbs on long cane creek in Abbeville
