I assume the female (Jackie), is currently sitting on the nest in a blinding snow storm, and is almost completely buried in snow! Heartbreaking to know that their dedication to their offspring will most likely result in a failed hatch this go round!! Currently 4:40pm EST!

Yes, that is Jackie. Really sad to us humans since we know the eggs are not going to hatch. But she and Shadow don't know, so they stay dedicated to what nature requires. I guess it is nature's way of training them to not give up when the going gets tough.

I don't think the blizzard was forecast. But at that altitude, weather can be unpredictable regarding snow.

We let our human knowledge and empathy drive us to try and change what nature knows is best, and I can understand why nature can seem so cruel. But man does more to destroy nature than anything else. We have caused species to become extinct and wiped out the Buffalo for a dollar each (hide taken and sold for a dollar and the meat left to rot. And we get upset when we see an animal being killed and eaten by another animal. That's all a part of survival.

There are, obviously, lots of reasons eggs don't hatch. However, I read this week that this nesting pair's eggs didn't hatch last year either.
