Cowbirds are again near Clemson

Due to Pine Siskins arriving for this Winter, my stash of bird food is hard to maintain.

The only bird I hate to feed is the Brown-headed Cowbird. I fight them every year. They eat the millet that I put out for the Chipping Sparrows who visit every Winter.

A Cowbird showed a few minutes ago. I picked up the gun I keep out here and fired a few rounds in that direction. He flew off. He will return and bring friends, not much I can do.

Are you prejudice against them because they have a dark face? Brownface if you will. Use this and they won't return, butt you might have to clean your deck.

The head/face is lighter than the rest of the bird. Maybe trying to turn white, like Michael Jackson?

In my neck of the woods it's the grackles that eat all the seed and bully the smaller songbirds

The cowbirds always have plenty of friends, neighbors, and relatives that they bring with them.

Recent estimate of CowBird numbers is 56 million.
I can't afford that many bullets, and I aint that good a pistolero.

The excellent gun above fires plastic BBs. I would never harm most critters, but this does scare them off and makes me feel better.
It would make no sense to destroy my feeders with real bullets.

A simple pump pellet gun and dirt cheap hollow tipped pellets will give you the aim to hit them and not take out your feeders, you also won't go broke... Or so I've been told....

Before the fire had many, including this which was very accurate.

I can't shoot a bird, it aint in me.
