Can we talk about Ingle’s tipped, dropped, tagged play

Have I just never known the intricacies of the rule here?

I get that a tipped ball must first hit the catchers mitt to be called a third strike out, but I’ve never seen a tipped ball be dropped and still be a live ball.

Can someone explain what happened there?

Ump ruled it didn’t contact the bat, rather it was simply a drop by the catcher. I’ve seen a foul tip reviewed by replay before but for some reason Bakich didn’t request it.

I was watching it live. They didn't show a replay right after, so I just trusted the call

It looked tipped to me. I was watching a slue of sports at the time, though. March Madness games, the USMNT game, and the Clemson game on my phone. Can't say I had the best view.

As far as Bakich asking for a review, it's up to the umps at that point. I guess he could ask, but he can't challenge. That home plate ump seemed sure of himself enough not to go to review. The check swing that he called on GT was asinine, and he was pretty sure of himself right then.
