If I'm pitching in that situation I'm trying to throw a strike. The other team is going to have to earn a hit. I'm throwing fastballs.

I would not want to lose by giving up a walk.

I doubt he was worried about a grand slam when a single would have gotten the job done. He pitched tightly to a hot hitter and missed his marks. I'm also not sure how many outs there were at the time of the walk. If less than 2, then a sac fly would also have gotten the job done and trying to prevent that would have added even more pressure.
