Had to jack Ashburn's topic from a few threads ago for a little gangsta rap history for the interested.
30 years ago the band NWA imploded after the fantastic success of their album "Straight out of Compton."
It was about money naturally, but all that artistic hatred was channeled into music for some of the best rap shid ever produced. Easy E, the leader of the band, cuddled up with the band's manager, who was part of their problem.
Camp 1 was Dr. Dre, who left the band and found a new protege, Snoop Dog. They recorded the fantastic album "The Chronic."
Camp 2 was Easy E, who produced a retaliatory album after Dre dissed the he77 out of him in The Chronic, for siding with their manager
Camp 3 was Ice Cube, who said "fukk all yall I don't care about you, don't want to hear from you, and don't want to hear about you.
In all, four incredibly talented artists who just couldn't make the numbers work out. Too much talent for one band.
Dre and Snoop Success - smooth as silk, funky, with an extra serving of bass. Sounds every bit as good today as it did 30 years ago.

Uh... yeah. Musician here, aaaannnddd... nope. I doubt a single one of those dudes could play guitar or horns or even plunk out 'Mary had a Little Lamb' on piano.

instruments it would sound awful. Doesn't mean they weren't great artists or groundbreaking innovators.
And the Beck is great too - original and creative and sounds amazing. But unlike Dre/Snoop etc there wasn't a whole genre created out of that sound.

Indeed. I just started here because Dre is one of the scheduled performers. But if you want to go WAY back, then you're into Sugar Hill Gang, Grandmaster flash, etc.
