So, I rewatched the game as best I could, condsidering it

was on 3 different stations. And here is my take. The offense is close. 3 or 4 plays could have made a huge diference. First, on the 4th and 2 to Shipley,if the pulling guard seals the linebacker, Shipley has a huge crease between the safety and the corner (who was being blocked), and I feel certain he would have scored. Second, On the 4th and I, which should have been 4th and 1 foot, the tight end who was in the back field to DJ's right, lolligagged (at least that is what it looked like to me) and was so slow leading DJ through the hole to the left of center, that he got in his way and held DJ up....we were short and DJ reached for it and fumbled. Third, a dropped pass on 3rd down and an over thrown pass to a wide open receiver on third down stopped drives. Both easily made plays.Fourth, we had I think a wide receiver screen, and when DJ turned and stepped to throw, ALL 3 RECEIVERS WERE TRYING TO BLOCK SOMEBODY. DJ had that ### look on his face and just had to pull it down and run it. NOT HIS FAULT AT ALL.
How do you fix all of that? Well, that is why you make 9M plus a year. Time to figure it out. We've got 2 more days.

Inside the stadium, on the two scoring drives, it looked like the blocking scheme on runs was just knock down the man in front of you. Simple but effective. The play you’re talking about (pulling the guard) didn’t work against UGA not GT. Maybe it’s time to give that one a rest for a bit.
The screen pass you mention is what bothers me. There have been other plays this season where the QB, the WR, and even the O-line have looked like they’re all running 3 different plays. It’s like they don’t even attend the same practice sessions sometimes.

The pulling guard play was absolutely run against GT on 4th and 2, and was stuffed for a gain of only 1 because 74 didn't block the guy who came through and made the tackle.

Yes, you're correct...

what I meant to say was "it didn't work against UGA and GT". This is my biggest frustration with the offense. It's same thing every game, every series, sometimes every play.

Nothing worked against UGA.
Should we stop calling all of our plays?

We should have been able to blow a bunch of assignments, miss blocks, etc. and still cover the spread.

where we called a timeout right before the nap and both guards pulled into each other (I'm sure this was Tate's fault). Had we not called that timeout, the fallout from that play would be played repeatedly on tv and the internet. It'd become the new face of our offense until we get things corrected.
It also baffles me how some of the guys up front can make so many mistakes and there isn't one substitution during the game....especially with Dabo claiming that 3 other capable guys are on the bench with no excuse not to play. Maybe Caldwell doesn't want to rotate, but at what point does Dabo/Elliott say get him out of there and give so and so a shot?

shovel pass on 4th down, that automatically defeats the purpose of a shovel pass-which is to fool the D Line.
Normally, you would call that after running outside all game, or vice versa---don't tip off tendencies.
I don't and will never understand the logic behind that call.

We have run the shovel pass numerous times in short yardage plays over the last several years.
Many times we are running it on the goal line and it has resulted in a TD more times than not.
We have also run it several times in 3rd or 4th and short situations with success.
It clearly did not work this time, but it has been a very successful approach in terms of the situation for which we used it last Saturday.

sacked way too much. Partially because line sucked hind teat. But also because he took way too long to decide to do something with the ball. He was much better at getting the ball out quicker. Granted much suckier defense. Other thing I think he did better was run. He's not as deceivingly quick as Trevor and not as hard to bring down as DW, but when he ran upfield, he often fell forward for 3-4 yards which obviously is a positive gain. Then, if you watch closely he makes some nice passes. One, I wish I could remember, but think it's the last few drives of the game (have tried to watch quickly, rewind etc. and not finding again), but he throws it to the middle of the field, low and only Ross has an opportunity to catch and he does. He gets rid of the ball quick, its down field past the first down line, and not in play for an interception. That pass gives me hope because it was difficult. The miscues fumbling, and then whatever is going on, miscommunication between the receiver and QB have to stop. I don't know if someone is running the wrong route or DJ is throwing the wrong route OR . . . I think with our offense, correct me if I'm wrong, the receiver runs and depending on where defender is he is supposed to go one way or the other. I wonder if it's that second level of knowledge of the offense that is failing. If that's it, it will get better. I did see some progress this week though again I know it was against a weaker defense.
