Notre Dame was up 10-0 when Dungey left
Dec 17, 2018, 6:38 PM
|
|
He had thrown one int, nearly two, and been hit multiple times. Syracuse's fg to make it 36-3 came with 15 seconds remaining. Babers/announcers said game was not even nearly that close. Also, their backup had replaced a healthy Dungey to lead a comeback win two weeks prior.
The Wake Forest game was 49-13 when we pulled our starters in the beginning of the fourth quarter. I've seen some say we struggled with Wake. Florida State game was 42-13 early in the 4th too when we pulled our starters and eventually ran out the last 6:35 without scoring. It was also 24 degrees and Book did not take a snap.
Just a heads up for some of the transitive property comparisons I've seen.

He may be a coot. Sounds like he'd be proud if ND lost by less than 10 points.

If we are as bad as some say we are then Clemson should be happy to have drawn us instead of upset that commentators are saying we can be competitive.

Secondary easily. Perhaps linebacker. Offensive line is a push. Kicker/punter. Tight end.

"Gilman, Love, Pride, Coney, Tillery, maybe Tranquill." - So that's why I thought your D was "tranquil". 'splains it I guess.
You can keep pizzing into the wind, and we will just keep pointing the fan. Bless your heart.
BTW: Did Manti Te'o ever find his girlfriend? 42-14 is the result for ND the last time (2012) that you guys thought you were worthy of playing for a NC. LOL Man, you're hopeless.

So our passing D is better statistically but you believe you have a better secondary? Our rushing D is much better but you believe your LBs may be as good as ours? Why do you think that? Yes Love is good at Corner but Mullen and Terrell are as good as they come with much better height than Love.

I think that a lot of those statistics have to do with having 3 of the top 6 DL in the country (and that includes Joey Bosa). That definitely helps the secondary on passing plays and helps the linebackers on running plays. Julian Love was 1st team AA in 4/5 major publications. Troy Pride is a very good counterpart, and Alohi Gilman has been named to a couple AA teams at safety.
As far as linebacker goes, Coney and Tranquill are a darn good pair too. Coney was Pro Football Focus' 1st team AA I believe and Tranquill won the Wuerffel award.
They will have their hands full and then some next weekend.

Sounds like a pretty solid group. It is a good thing that our O is one of the best in the nation. Ofcourse it will not be easy but I doubt y'all can hold us under 30 and with the D we have it will be very difficult for y'all to score 4 TDs.

Thats what I think our formula to winning would be. Our defense is much stronger than our offense, so ideally they are able to hold Clemson to 24 while the offense converts any red zone trips and gets to 28. Not saying it will happen, but I have more faith in the Defense's end of the bargain than the Offense's. That's based on our personnel.

Well I have seen our O play bad before but not often. Our secondary has been beat bad twice this year so there are for sure some things ND can do to score some points. BV with a month to prepare will be hard to move the ball on tho. Special teams could come in huge. If y'all get a spark there it could change the game. This will be the first big time game for both QBs really so whoever handles it the best will give their team a huge advantage. I hope to see both teams bring their best and leave it all on the field. May the best team win. Y'all have a heck of a coach so I know he will have his team ready.

Btw I am not knocking yall. Props to the grrwr season and I believe y'all are for sure a top 4 team or atleast deserve to be. I would say secondary is a wash along with OL. Y'all may have a better kicker and I will give you the pass catching tight end advantage. Book has been great and y'all have a dang good RB. Being better at 2 of 3 positions just is not enough tho. I don't think y'all can hang but I hope it is a good game. We just have too much talent.

Honestly, I was shocked the committee didn’t serve you guys up to Bama by jumping OU up to #3. Their justification would have been the lack of a conference championship but I thought for sure they would do like 2015 when they jumped Mich St. over OU so we would get beat up by Oklahoma first. It worked.
I think everyone is happy with the draw. Are there people saying we are unhappy to have the easier opponent? Even if it’s “one of those days” and you guys win, I still don’t think anyone would believe our secondary would have done better against Kyler Murray in the semi.

I think those are Gamecock fans who try to paint us into a corner by underachieving no matter what the score is. Polls and ratings don’t matter any more so survive and advance is the goal. Should be a good game. I predict 31-20 unless we fumble away two more punts.

BTW, something Catholics may not realize is that Baptists have been around even longer than you's guys. In fact, the Gospels explicitly document the ministry of a fellow who went by the name of John the Baptist who came before Jesus. I don't know what this has to do with football, but since we're arguing about who is better based on our games vs Syracuse, thought I would throw that out there too.

Addressed Pitt above. We did not play well. I've seen a bunch of people here stating the Syracuse game would have been different if Dungey didn't get hurt though. Also, when asked if ND was the best team they played Babers said "They are a lot better than people think they are and deserve every bit of where they are."

against ND. ND struggled to beat a 5-7 USC team, your only "big" win was less impressive after Ohio State pummeled Michigan.
It took a 4th quarter TD for ND to beat Pitt at home 19-14. The same Pitt team Clemson pounded 42-10. The Pitt coach was asked which team was better, ND or Clemson, his comment was no comparison, Clemson is much better and deeper than ND.
We typically play 60-75 players a game.
ND is a double digit underdog against Clemson for a reason

UHhh...we were playing backups (2nd and 3rd string) IN THE FIRST HALF against Wake, FSU and Pitt. Any knowledgeable fan knows you can't compare scores...that's like saying the coots were almost as good as us in 2015 LOL.
With that said, I expect a close ballgame.

We posted 698 yards vs Wake to their 249 ND posted 566 and gave up 398 +7 more points for Clemson offense against the same team on the road Clemson gave up 24 less points
We posted 524 yards vs FSU to their 247 ND posted 495 gave up 322 +17 more points for Clemson offense against the same team Clemson gave up 3 less points at FSU during much better weather
We posted 419 vs Pitt to their 199 ND posted 344 gave up 242 (ND had multiple circus catches that will be difficult to replicate) +23 more points for Clemson offense against the same team Clemson gave up 4 less points in the pouring rain on a neutral site
We posted 469 yards vs Syracuse to their 311 Clemson had a lot going on and gave up 3 turnovers ND posted 463 yards gave up 234 vs a backup QB and received 3 turnovers. -9 points for Clemson offense against the same team Clemson gave up 20 more points
Say what you want but outside of the one outlier against Syracuse our offense and defense has outshined ND's in almost every game except when our QB quit and TL was injured in the 1st half and we gave up 3 turnovers one of which was inside the 10. I like our odds and feel good about our 1-on-1 matchups across the board.

games.......What was your excuse for the pitiful showing against Southern Cal?
If pitiful is being up a couple touchdowns with a minute to go against your rival then looks like we both finished the season pitifully.

with 12 to go and then put in everybody.....You seem to know a lot about that game. I am thinking, instead of the Gipper, you might be The Clucker.

Your starting running back scored with 40 seconds left when you could have kneeled.

And after we put in the 70th + player in the game at 49 - 21, the scoring would have been over. However, when u5c kept their starters in and scored 2 more times that option was taken off the table. If they wanted to keep playing, they should have stopped ETN with 12 seconds left. It was a message to tell u5c that we could score on them all day. Look at GT and when Johnson removed his starters, the scoring stopped. Not the only times this year.

2 weeks prior? They chumped out and shot the gap on the V kneel at the end of that other loss. Instead we gave the ball to our dude up the middle, up the middle, and he still wasn't stopped 8 yards out. That's on them.

Wow. I got a domer in my office and he still claims if it hadn't rained a couple of years ago, ND would have won. He is deLOUsional too.
The coot game was a rivalry game. The last TD by Etienne was a reminder. They are still two or three levels below us. Bentley talked. Pitt talked. FSU talked. Now we see ND doing nothing but talk. Come back and take your medicine when Clemson covers the spread easily and Wimbush is in the game in the 4th quarter.

No worries, The Obama curse will raise it’s ugly head again. You can’t give a baby killer an honorary degree and be an institution of god at the same time.

I do not understand why someone comes to another teams site and expects people to think their team will get beat. I am in the holiday spirit so here is what you want for Christmas. Clemson will struggle to stop Notre Dame's offense. Our D line has pretty much been crap all year, we will be lucky if one of them makes a living as a janitor for a team in the Nfl. Our offense is not very good we will not be able to out run you so we will need to line up and run the wishbone with hopes of keeping the game close. I do think we have a shot and the final score will be 14 to 12 CU. I hope you have a great Christmas and I look forward to us pulling an upset in this game.

Most Irish fans are pretty reasonable about this game. There are no delusions of an easy win. I think Clemson will probably win, but it won't surprise me if the Irish pull it out. It's difficult to compare common opponents as each team has a different mental makeup week to week given the previous weeks performance. One thing that is true, is teams get up for ND regardless of the teams record. It's their chance to make their mark.
Both defenses will be the best each team has seen this year. Clemson has more overall team speed, but ND isn't slow like the 2012 team. Whichever team can move the ball on the ground is going to have an advantage.

Trust me, Clemson being ranked in the top 4 for 4 years running...teams get up to play Clemson.
That being said...I also think it'll be a good game.
