the current Governor. They will need a billion or so for land, another $100 billion or so for new parks, but hey, it will be new so they can charge more.
Plus they can sell the old parks. They would make a good something for someone.
The key here is that they wouldn't have to be under DeSantis anti-woke thumb!

Disney Theme Parks in Florida are not going anywhere

they generate far too much revenue. There is talk about building another park in the SE instead of investing in the expansion of their current Orlando resorts and parks, which is just common sense if they were to fall under the scrutiny of a special board of the governor's cronies. I fthey can get a land deal somewhere else, then they will just expand elsewhere, which would limit economic growth in Florida. Our governor is a moron, he picked the wrong hill to die on.

a quick win with Disney, and either the general assembly or the courts would bail him out by nixing his meddling; so, he would get the optics of winning the fight, without messing up an arrangement that benefits both Florida's top employer, and local taxpayers.
But then that didn't happen, and DeSantis was in for a penny, in for a pound. Of course, in terms of scales of power, he quickly realized a dweeb of a governor standing on a perilous legal foundation is no match for Disney's deep pockets lined with copies of the First Amendment.

DeSantis is a smart guy with smart staff. He and his legal team are probably very good lawyers with respect to most public sector matters.
Unfortunately for him and FL residents, he didn’t recognize that simply having public sector legal experience does not mean that he has corporate structure legal expertise.
Kind of like an outstanding FB defensive coordinator with out experience in running the offense thinking that doing the offense won’t be hard to do.
I don’t think that DeSantis was playing some 3D chess by faking a ‘morality’ suit that could be kept in the news by extending the fight with Disney. The longer that DeSantis fight goes on, the ‘conservative cause’ keeps getting oxygen. However, the longer that this goes on, the weaker that DeSantis looks.
DeSantis had Disney’s neck on the block and had the soon-to-expire special tax as his axe. He had one shot to make the chop, and missed.
He’s now stuck in a battle which he can’t win.
If he calls off the fight (hoping that the news cycle will move on to the next ‘Trump did it’ story), then he’ll look weak.
If he drags it out in hopes of making Disney look like the evil ‘groomer empire,’ then the news cycle will remind everyone that DeSantis’ lack of private sector experience makes him no more qualified for high level public office than the garden variety Democrat candidate.
No, I disagree that DeSantis’ problem has anything to do with first amendment. His deficiency is not understanding the legalities of corporate board of director powers vs corporate executive management powers. This was the key aspect that exposed DeSantis’ ignorance.

and the whole "Disney Groomer" thing does not resonate well with a lot of conservatives, most independents, and certainly not liberals. He backed himself into a no-win situation, both in this state and in a potential national bid.

has long passed. DeSantinistas wanted an easy win and to move on, not be drug back into it again and again. It's why 2022 was such a wash for the GOP when it should have been a landslide; too many candidates wanted to rehash 2020 when the rest of the nation -- including independent voters they needed to win -- were begging to move on. Every time Disney/Desantis makes headlines it'll be nails on a chalkboard reminding everybody of DeSantis' pettiness.

Disney’s new advantage has nothing to do with first amendment issues. Their advantage is how boards are constructed, and how responsibilities of the board of directors get changed by the corporation’s executive management.
I’m not professing to understand the legal inner-workings about how the board can be changed by management, or how the management can be changed by the board. ‘Sub-boards’ and ‘special committees’ in a corporation … I don’t claim to know the legal inner-workings of how these can / cannot be changed.
Apparently, DeSantis doesn’t know either … or that he doesn’t understand these inner-workings as well as Disney. Not that DeSantis SHOULD know about this as well as Disney. Point being that DeSantis didn’t recognize that he was trying to punch above his weight class.
The longer that he keeps trying to punch, the more he’ll be exposed as wasting his one real advantage (I.e., the sunset of the State of FL special tax district).
Right now, DeSantis’ failure is known by political junkies and FL residents. If this fight continues, then DeSantis’ mistake will be known by a wider range of potential primary voters across the country.

be fair and not present Desantis as a narcissistic As>##### that is too easily corrupted by power. I also doubt the personalities on ESPN will not take every cheap shot possible being that they lost millions in the form of stock incentives because Hamberder Ron is causing panic among their shareholders.
and of course, they are suing his as>s for what amounts to maleficence.

ABC News is little more than a rounding error on Disney’s books. It would be worth it to Disney if ABC News were sacrificed in its entirety if ABC News reporting was to be effective in ginning up negative public opinion about DeSantis.
IMO, ABC News can say whatever bad stuff that they want about DeSantis. DeSantis can’t stop ABC News from saying bad things about him.
Both sides can talk about the public interest hot button issues all that they want. None of that matters with respect to how Disney (in what seems legal to me) changed the role of their ‘special board’ (the one on which State of FL people reside) so that that same ‘special board’ no longer decides how the land is used or what projects get prioritized.
Corporate boards and corporate managements often agree to changes in how a corporation is governed. Those changes are commonly formally voted ‘yes’ or ‘no’ by the annual election of directors and special changes in which the company is governed.
Disney’s shareholders will vote according to whether they agree with Disney Management’s recommendations on any special changes.
Disney has been an excellent stock, and their money-maker CEO is back in the saddle. Disney shareholders will vote in favor for whatever changes in the responsibilities of the ‘special board’s’ role has been recommended by Disney Management.
This, IMO, is all straight-forward corporate governance stuff. Even If I’m wrong in my belief that Disney is where they want to be, then it will take longer than 1.5 years to get sorted out. If he doesn’t rise to POTUS, then his power in FL is likely to be diminished, and the Republicans in the legislature won’t want to be left out of Disney’s political contributions again. DeSantis missed his opportunity to get Disney to behave. Turn out the lights.

Let me add that any fall off in Disney stock (via a drop in attendance at Disney World’s theme parks or at their Orlando area convention centers / lodging venues) will be because the spending power of consumers will be pinched by costs of inflation in the consumers’ private lives.
Cheaper vacation options than Disney are available. The fun-filled George W. Bush and Barack Obama presidential libraries come to mind.
Proving that any decline in Disney’s revenues as being primarily caused by Ron DeSantis will be akin to Alvin Bragg’s suit against Trump. Another ‘just turn out the lights’ scenario against the plaintiff.

I realize that my long posts are hard to follow. I’ll try and summarize:
DeSantis & team are smart legal minds with regard to public policy law.
DeSantis & team are neophytes with respect to corporate law and of the nuances by which a corporation’s executive management in combination with that same corporation’s board of directors are governed.
Public policy law and corporate governance law are very different in their details, much as a surgeon’s skills are very different than those of an anestheologist.
Disney’s ‘special land use board’ (the one which is not currently populated with State of FL hand-picked DeSantis guys … but will soon be populated with a majority of DeSantis’ proxies) made the pre-emotive move of transferring the ‘special land use board’s’decision making role to Disney’s corporate management. In other words, the ‘old board’ made a decision to divest themselves of land-use decisions before the new board was to be legally installed.
Kind of like how an outgoing POTUS can name a new SCOTUS between the election date and the inauguration of the next POTUS.
This action (which IMO opinion as a non-lawyer lay person) is perfectly normal and within the standard type of corporate management changes in the corporation’s rules of governance.
Did this help?
responsibility for Disney World’s

8888 did you think that through?
Will Disney just shut the gates down and start over somewhere else? You think that would be financially viable? Maybe they could sell the land they own and then buy more somewhere else. Of course, the current property would be discounted by the cost of tearing it down and moving it to the dump.
Or, would Disney disassemble everything and actually move it all? Hmm. That might be expensive and to boot there'd be no park income for a long time.
Or, maybe they build a new place while still operating the old place. Then when the new place is up and running they shut down Disney World and sell the FL property. Hmm. Better crack open Excel and do some what-ifs on that one too.
Or, how about they slowly disassemble Disney World and move it to DisneyLand in CA? What better place to go than there - double down on liberalism! Yee-haa!
