It want be a matter of need. It will be a matter of 20 power teams to keep the SEC a step ahead of the others.

DING DING you get it,the SEC will not pass on Clemson. We have every thing they are looking for.

Yeah, about that...

Nov 30, 2012, 1:01 PM

ESPN rated Greenville, SC as the 4th biggest TV market for CFB.

Here's what you aren't getting...

Nov 30, 2012, 1:09 PM

this isn't about college football fans or college TV markets. It's about total TV sets in a TV market. The SEC, Big10 and Big12 (thru the longhorn network) are all trying to get their product on your local cable network, DirecTV or DishNetwork. That way they can charge about $1 per month per TV set in a particular TV network. This is why they are looking at the biggest available TV markets they can penetrate.

Re: Yeah, about that...

Nov 30, 2012, 1:33 PM [ in reply to Yeah, about that... ]

It's not exactly what it appears. A TV ratings point represents 1% of viewers in the surveyed area in a given minute. So while Greenville may have a 4.1% rating, its 4.1% rating may not be apples vs. apples when compared to a 4.1% rating for a much larger viewing area.

For example, let's say the Greenville viewing area has 1 million people (I have no idea); a 4.1% rating would equal 41,000 people (or TV sets). A 4.1% rating in a viewing area of 3 million people would represent more than 120,000 people.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

yeah, except everyone already watches SC

Nov 30, 2012, 1:34 PM [ in reply to Yeah, about that... ]

either because they are a fan or they hate them. There is no TV gained in SC

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

IF we get in we will be

Nov 30, 2012, 11:56 AM

The last two in. I think a 20 team SEC will be a very diluted conference. What makes them.special now will be gone.

Re: Re: ^ doesn't understand

Nov 30, 2012, 11:58 AM

That's so dumb. If that were the case WE WOULD ALREADY BE IN!

Re: Re: ^ doesn't understand

Nov 30, 2012, 12:01 PM

What makes them special? Like Kentucky, Vanderbilt, Ole Miss, Missouri? Adding top tier teams will keep them special. FSU and Clemson would be great for the competition. Not to say that it isn't already.

We are not in the SEC because there never was a reason to leave the ACC.I think if Clemson wanted to be in the SEC they would have taken us over the COOTs.

Exactly. And that is what is driving this.

Stick Clemson in ATL, Charlotte, NC's triangle area or Northern VA, and they get an invitation yesterday.

A 20 team conference would be way too large. Therefore you will onstage the big boys maybe every 5-6 years......if your lucky. The rivalries is what makes the ACC special. If you throw 20 plus teams in the mix something has to give.

Re: Re: Re: Re: ^ doesn't understand

Nov 30, 2012, 12:08 PM

Sorry the sec is made special by rivalries. F the ACC games

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Had me scratching my head there for a minute and if

Nov 30, 2012, 12:32 PM

You really start giving any conference rivalry we have importance, only fsu Carries weight and we have been playing them much shorter time than many. GT doesn't care much sense of loss if there Would be one and playing a weak version of VT every 5 yrs hardly brings the wow factor

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You guys don't get it

Nov 30, 2012, 12:40 PM

They probably don't need FSU... and they definitely don't need us. It's not about "fit", it's about money. If it were about fit, we would have been in the SEC about 50 years ago.

badge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I get that for sure but my statement said our rivalries suck

Nov 30, 2012, 1:32 PM

In conference. It had nothing to do with "fit". One thing I do not get is the original espn ticker that scrolled 18 months or so ago that said espn repports tamu,mo,fsu, and Clemson to sec. Was that learned to be of no substance at all or did they vote and only two were added. One thing I will say is if it was put before a vote, then it seems like they were not too concerned about market footprint as everyone thinks when it came down to fsu and Clemson and it could come up again

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Lonnie I agree

Nov 30, 2012, 12:10 PM

We just don't have enough sets. Between Atlanta and rest of SC were screwed.
