Why do some people on here not like the hype?

People complain about not being a top 10 team year in and out. You can't be a top 10 team without the hype. I'm glad we have a coach that has brought this much hype to Clemson. It's time we prove this hype by beating UGAy! Hype is a good thing.
GO TIGERS!

hype great for fans. just hope the players realize hype

doesn't matter on the playing field. Alabama's kickoff crushing of Clemson still haunts us. I think folks are just cautious because of this.
It is like many lottery winners going bankrupt a few years after they win. If you've never had money, then you may not know how to handle it.
The same can be said for pre-season hype. Let's hope the players have learned from our recent past. Fortunately we are playing a team ranked higher than us and not one that is ranked in the 20's and coming off a 6-5 season. I don't think the team will lose focus this time.

Hype is just another form of advertising.

The next Apple product doesn't just casually hit the street. The appetite is built up through hype. That hype comes from teasers, advanced products going to reviewers, etc. Reviewers are given "expert" status in the same way sports writers and talkers are.
Not everyone gets sucked into it. Some ignore it, and that is legitimate, too. But hype works. It sells. Not just products, but images/reputations also. And it makes money for tons of people involved in it.

Would you say that apple builds an "appletite" among its brand advocates?

returning as ACC preseason POY, top 10, #2 rated ESPN recruiting class with Bowers as the #1 recruit, etc in 2008.
Obviously that was just a totally different scenario, but that's why some fans are cautiously optimistic.

Dabo has changed the culture. Clemson is a national brand and we need to be proud of the hype.

Especially with the Bowden era. The team would be hyped then fall flat.
Bowden teams that were hyped typically started cold, finished hot. Teams that weren't hyped seemed to start hot, but finish cold.

If there were less hype would the TB seasons have been ...

...less disappointing? Not for me, at least. Even without hype, losing games you should win still stings.

any way you cut it those teams just could never "get over the hump". All results were equally disappointing, and the worst was beating a good FSU or Miami team, then losing to Duke or Wake Forrest. The inconsistency was maddening.

For me hype is a great "spice" when we play to capacity

...and the losing is still maddening regardless. Especially when we lose by being outplayed (last year's SCar game....WVa routing in the bowl, etc.) when we should be much more competitive. Only the sports "professionals" use the hype to hammer teams. Fans use it to get even more excited.

I like the hype this year and think it is the best year to have hype. Say in a different year Clemson finished 11 or 12-0 in the ACC playing out of conference Furman, SC State, and a bad USC team. The only big win was what many claimed was an over ranked Fla St team? That could end up being a Boise St type year and all the hype and fans going crazy over an undefeated season would end up with a non national Champ bowl game
Take this year's hype and look at the schedule. UGA USC top 10 preseason Fla St top 15, add to that a decent Miami team in the ACC champ game and Clemson is set up for a perfect storm. No chance of going undefeated and missing the big game. This is the year to get the hype, however, with the hype comes the responsibility to win and meet the expectations!

Why does hype change the responsibility to win?

The teams should ALWAYS play at max capacity in my book. Even when jaws would flap about "Clemson pulling a Clemson" the wins were just a exciting and the loses just as aggravating, especially the ones that just didn't make sense.

For this reason: Virtually every time Clemson has been hyped as having a great team, PRE-SEASON, Clemson has "pulled a Clemson." And it has happened over, and over, and over. I can't wait to see if Dabo can change this pattern.

I really liked the article by former SEC coaches now ACC talking about ACC schedules
Clemson has beaten good ACC teams, played close games in small stadiums, and won big games at Fla St.
The problem with pulling a Clemson is the consistency of playing on the big stage. A top 15 Clemson team can squeak out a game not playing their best at Duke or Wake in front of 35K then go to a big stadium in the post season and get overwhelmed by the hype.
The only comparison size and atmosphere wise is if Clemson and Fla St played each other every week then played their rivals to end the season. You end up with pulling a Clemson simply due to not being on the big stage enough due to the competition in the ACC.
think about it Fla St could now be the new pull a Clemson. highly ranked big recruiting classes little results on the field. I think they have surpassed Clemson if pulling a Clemson is an actual issue

The hype "machine" is now 24/7 at every level. If hype is missing if even for a day, we are probably in trouble.
