players. OL (biggest need at 4) and WR (2) are the most pressing. DE is one of those "possibles" if some of our younger players don't pan out. That's about it.
We have 17 commits with room for another 10 on the 2024 roster with some of the transfer/NFL declarations we've seen today. Nat'l signing day is a little over a month away so....a lot can still happen.

Taken none in 2024. Committed 2025 kid, who needs development, was hurt this year. Not sure Viz will be who they hoped he'd be.....

As things stand now...
QB, OL, and DE make sense. We need a veteran presence in the room with Cade and Vizzina. Putnam heading to the NFL and Mayes transferring out gives us a spot at OL. We seriously need someone to start opposite of Parker next year. Denhoff isn't that guy. Hoffler might need another year to develop.
Depending on what else happens...
LB makes sense if Carter declares for the draft.
WR makes sense if someone else transfers out.

Maybe on QB....but it is more of a "depth" issue than anything if one of CK/Vizzina goes down.
DE is a question mark...can we develop some of our younger guys? Did we miss on Patterson?

We can't go into next season with just Cade, CV, and Pearman. We are losing 2 with 0 commits.
Outside of Parker, I'm not sure I trust any of our other DEs to be a full time starter. Hoffler would be the closest, IMO. He at least has pass rushing ability. Patterson has been on campus for three years but has never played. It doesn't seem like it's going to workout for him. Hopefully I'm wrong. He was a pretty highly rated recruit.

If we get down to the 3rd string QB having to start a game then we're ephed anyway and not gonna sniff the CFP. Too many holes elsewhere, roll with Pearman—

WR is a need with Collins leaving, and probably was before that. There is no guarantee the freshman contribute as quickly as most would like. Finding a veteran WR that would be here for 1 year makes a lot of sense imo.

The numbers don't really make sense though. We are losing Spector and Beaux with Wesco and Moore coming in. We currently are expected to have 10 WRs on the roster next year. Unless someone else transfers out, then I wouldn't expect the coaches to go after a WR in the portal.

I would say it should be based on do we have enough/right talent/skillsets, not the specific number. If it's strictly numbers based, that's a poor way to manage a roster imo. Especially if we're looking at someone that will be here just 1 or 2 years and brings something we need.

I think 3 or 4 good transfers is what takes any team from good to great - or from great to elite.
If you NEED more than that, your program is in trouble - and a few portal players probably won't help it.

Woods played outside some this year. We are still deep at DT so that could happen again if needed next year.
