How desperate was the athletic department for money, that they allowed some goober to name the stadium after himself?

If we had to lose the Tiger Field name, even a corporate sponsor would’ve been better.
Anything would sound better than “…here at Doug Kingsmore.”

So stupid. I cringe every time I hear it.

It’s my understanding he gave $1 million in 1970 when most college baseball was played in facilities that wouldn’t pass for most high schools these days. That’s about $8 million in today’s money. And he’s a former Clemson Tiger and MLBer. It’s been called Doug Kingsmore my whole life so maybe that is part of it but it has never occurred to me that there is anything cringe worthy about it.

Dollar amount is accurate - $1M. Not the $8M inflation-adjusted number. Renovation was in early 2000s I believe.

Renamed in 1970's LMAO.

It was more like early 2000's. Wanna talk about cringe - people called it "Beautiful Tiger Field" before that which seems very corny IMO. Glad it was given a name.
