The biggest reason is majority of people are sick of getting preached at and told what to think, how to feel. That they are to blame for things that happened before they were born, or even that criminals that refuse to follow directions and get themselves shot is their fault. Most former fans are not coming back, I know no one in my family are. Sundays are now family days and it wouldn't take much to make Saturdays that way also!

Media and players are clueless. When the players and coaches stood at midfield before the game in a "show of unity" they were greeted with loud boos from the stands.
Media and players say, "How could they boo unity."
Memo to them: They weren't booing unity, they were booing an organization that supports violence, rioting, disrespect of law enforcement and disrespect of the flag.
Meanwhile the owners were saying, "Boo all you want. Just keep buying tickets."

Also, how about the national anthem sang by a lady with a George Floyd shirt on, but not a mention of 9/11 - when this game was being played on 9/11 eve. If I missed it, then my bad, but while I was watching, I saw no mention of 9/11 - only George Floyd and the regular crap they've forced at us for months now.

I like Titico as an announcer but BLM caused most of it. Most people see them as who they are. The ratings drop was very predictable and will continue to drop all season. The ratings will actually get worse. Last night, many people watched because it was the first game and also to see what spectacle the NFL would put on. Viewership will drop considerably in my opinion.

I hope you’re right. People are fed up. I just talked to a career coach who is now retired. He said “I’m done. Can’t watch those entitled brats”. His words.

Best way to explain a magazine to a coot (ie the illiterate). Not all illiterates are coots but all coots are illiterate.
Magazines are like iPads that doctors offices provide in their lobby for you to steal. "Dey burn gud" in the winter.

1 main reason. The teams that played. Bigger market teams played last year.
2nd partial reason...no fans make it less exciting.
The NFL will be thriving for decades. It thrived last year and people were complaining.

I wouldn’t put money on it if I were betting person. Either a lot of people are lying or they re fed up with racist groups who seek to divide loving people in the best country on earth.
It’s a lot like the stock market, a trend down means it’s a trend down unless the cause of the trend is corrected.

rematch with a team from the number 8 media market, you're going to need better spin than "but but but it was the teams", this wasn't Jacksonville at Detroit guy, these were heavy hitters last night and anybody tuning in for the fans is a ######...I agree that the NFL ain't going anywhere, but that post was some weak ### sauce

The drop has nothing to do with what you want it to

Imagine if I told you that in GAME A the team with the 19th largest fanbase in the NFL won in a blowout over the team with the 25th largest fanbase. And you compared that to GAME B, where the team with the 2nd largest fanbase played the team with the 9th largest fanbase (Chicago v. Green Bay). In GAME B,neither team was behind by more than one score for the entire game. GAME B is also the oldest and most storied rivalry in the NFL. Which game do you think would have higher ratings?

The game last night was up against the NBA playoffs, NHL playoffs, and the US Open, none of which would've been on last night in a normal year, so its possible those pulled some viewers too.
The first few Sundays should tell the story though.
