I guess I'm a little jaded.....I've been on more zoom calls than I can count with my HS Junior son and various college admissions people, and they are all in love with the fact that this year was test optional (SAT or ACT) for many universities, and seem to think that will be the new trend. It feels like we are weeding out and de-emphasizing competency in a overreaching attempt to level some playing field.

I had the essay portion as well.
Edit to say no, I didn't do the essay portion of the SAT. It wasn't an option in 1992

I didn't have it on mine but I think it got introduced shortly after I graduated.
I have mixed feelings on these test. On one hand, they're a good universal measuring stick from some basic math/verbal skills, but on the other hand, your GPA and class rank tend to be a more accurate reflection of how you will perform in college.
But hell if I know the answer.

THat was around 2000. They switched to some shizz where the max score was like 2400 and there was a essay somewhere between 2005 and 2015. When I took it 1600 was the max.

I didn't have the essay, and if you're 30 or over, you probably didn't either.
Edit: It was added in 2005.

Plumber, Mechanic, Electrician.....people in all three fields clearing 6 figures, and they'll become the rule rather than the exception in years to come. Additional plus is that none of those type jobs can effectively be outsourced to India or the Philippines.

We're slam full of skilled tradesmen that clear 6 figures. While our engineers and other management types make less in most situations. The real money is skilled tradesmen that have engineering degrees (humble brag). They're rare as hens teeth and make bank.

That said, do that line of work until you're 40, then come into the engineering field and be a designer. Probably the most I learned in my early career was from an old dude that was a master electrician working as a designer.

If you want to pursue a well-paying career while taking some risks and you don't have a degree (or a degree that will do anything right now), there are a ton of options at the ports. And their amenities on site are pretty good from what I hear.

From Inside Higher Education 8/17/20--by Bruce Hammond-----**** "As our country grapples with its heritage of white supremacy, educators need look no further than the SAT for an example of how systemic racism perpetuates itself."
Memo to Bruce: Math testing is racist? Are Asians assisting in continuing the heritage of white supremacy?
Let's just dumb everything down and eliminate any possible way to weed out those less capable. Unbelievable.

Don't need SAT or ACT.
The new normal algorithm
if( applicant.race != WHITE )then
. . . admission.decision = TRUE; . . . scholarship.decision = TRUE; . . . scholarship.amount = FULL;
else . . . send_rejection_letter( applicant);
