I completely agree. Even the commentators thought it was false start at first. The center is allowed to move before the ball is snapped. However, no player is allowed to intentionally try to make the opposition go off-sides. His hand motion and head bob was right in the direction of deshawn williams, making him believe the ball was snapped and effectively drew him offsides. Still, it was just a hard-count and the defensive line surely must have known not to jump because it was almost a given it was going to be a no-snap. Especially cause they just called a timeout and it was in the shotgun, no need to get off that quickly. That play was a killer for sure.

That's why ole ball sac called the timeout and instructed the center to do this. No lose situation. If you get caught just back up 5 yards and punt anyway. Smartass coach with no ethics. Win at all costs. Wish the refs would have had the guts to call it.

Cost us the momentum but bad calls happen, good teams over come them, we didn't.

and we fell for it hook line and sinker. just like numerous other mistakes that night. we were not very focused. 0-4 to them I would have expected us to have a little more edge but we did not

I totally agree. In my mind that was the biggest mistake we made all night. I know we made a bunch, but we had the momentum and the score was tied at 17....they were punting. I feel like if we had forced the punt we would probably have driven the field and scored to take the lead. That was a definite killer. Off of a time out, surely venables told our DL don't jump on a hard count. I don't think the coots were even planning on snapping the ball. The ole ball sac just out coached us again. Crap ! Will we ever learn.

I'll bet you anything that he was coached to do it! What's to lose? Five yards for them and they were punting anyway, but for us…possibly the dang game. Blown call and should be reprimanded for it, imo. I've been wondering why no one else noticed and was beginning to think I was just crazy. Well, I certainly am that, but my eyes still work most of the time. Go Tigers! Beat Bama in the Orange Dang Bowl!

Remember the Tennessee game when SC called 2 timeouts when they were going for it on 4th and 1 on their own 30 yard line late in the game and everyone thought Spurrier had lost his mind. I think they did the same thing there. It is a designed played where the center moves enough where the ref should call a false start. But if the ref does not see the move and the defense jumps off sides the play works as it did in our game. If the ref calls a false start, no harm to the offense. It's just a 5 yard penalty. In the Tennessee game the defense did not jump off sides and the ref did not call a false start , so a second time out was called. In our game, if we had not jumped off sides and the ref did not call a false start, I think SC would have just taken a delay penalty and punted. I do not think they ever intended to go for it on 4th and 1.

think it is necessarily cheating on Spurrier's part. It is gamesmanship, but not cheating. We shouldn't have jumped, and when we did, the refs should have called illegal procedure on USC. They blew it, but so did we. We outplayed them and it's a travesty that we need up losing. Ol' Ball Sac's got Dabo's number and continues to have. I'm certain it's eating Dabo alive, regardless of his calm exterior. It'll be over soon. Go Tigers!

Please make a gif, I mean coots could care less if they cheat and win, as long as they win. Called a timeout on their own side of the field prior...nice move spurrier.

thing yesterday. He said the center should have been called for a snap infraction...kind of like the one those same ACC refs saw our center commit in the Auburn game a couple of years ago. You, the same refs that saw that snap infraction, but did not see the 250lb. Auburn linebacker a yard across the line of scrimmage....
The same refs that saw the holding on our pass play, but did not see the face mask on Tajh on the same play. The same ACC refs who incorrectly penalized us an extra 8 yards on the grounding penalty.
