Just a thought concerning NIKE and Oregon.....If Phil

Starts buying players for Oregon....how long do you think Bama, Clemson, Georgia...and others will keep outfitting their teams in NIKE gear...It would be stupid to send your money to a guy that is going to use it to put you out of business.

I had the same thought last week. I am not a Nike supporter.

I haven't bought a Nike product since the early 90's.

How long are contracts with outfitting a team? I can envision Nike facing a double edged sword if all of their NIL contracts are for Oregon players.

Is Nike a publicly traded company? I'd imagine that any donations from Knight are currently out of his own funds, and not the company. He'd probably have issues with the board if he were making exclusive offers to Oregon players on behalf of Nike. There would also be questions of if the donations are profitable for the company since he'd owe a duty to the shareholders to be as profitable as possible. I could be wrong, but I don't think major companies like NIKE are the concern when it comes to buying players with these NIL deals simply because they have a board to answer to.

Guessing NIKE will operate in their economic best interests

Their marketing has been pretty successful over the years.
Anything is possible but it would be surprising if NIKE suddenly did something to adversely impact brand and sales.

You mean like using slave labor to make their shoes? Hasn't seemed to hurt them so far.

athletic programs will continue to outfit their teams with Nike gear.
Universities will just have to continue living with Nike's support of Oregon just like they do now. Doesn't matter if the money goes into Oregon's ridiculous facilities (not just football) or players.
