Short on Experience or Talent? I think your title is mis-written. TL16 was a Fresh and showed he had the Talent to do big things, not experience.

You know what the issues are, David.
Stop covering for this staff……speak the truth.

They should be re-stocking b/c the talent isn’t what it used to be.

Here it comes, wait for it …..I must be a coot.

Yeah there was no backup issue for DW4 and for TL16, Chase Brice was a different backup than Pearman and Vizzina will be to start the season.

If you're not, you missed a good chance, but you are right that Dabo should have already made the call for getting a really talented QB on the roster bc, using the lack of a talented QB on the roster is poor A$$ excuse for losing if your #1 starting QB goes down and he doesn't a talented QB ready to step in if needed!!! And I know as well as most T-Netters know, I'm not a d a m n smelly A$$ chicken, but sometimes the truth do hurt even if it's coming from a 61 year never die Tiger that flaunts a Tiger Paw every time I step out the door of my home here in Cootlumbia!!! Like I've said, by not having a talented QB that could start most anywhere is poor A$$ excuse for losing if your starter goes down and you don't have a proven QB to plug in!!!

If Pearman and Vizzina are so great why did we never see them last year? You can play up to 4 games and redshirt. Yet these guys really never saw the field. That should concern us. Dabo could make me sound good but where is the pt and experience at qb? I like Cade but a couple of times he should have sat for a series or so for some of his mistakes. We need to see what these guys can do and we should have found a way to get a portal qb.

we were heading for a losing record in dramatic fashion until Tyler from Spartanburg showed up and woke everyone up. They knew Cade gave them the best shot and the other guys were surely going to be a liability. We didnt' have many games where we stretched the lead enough to get guys experience. IT was a stressful season for this staff.

Exactly. Cade needed to play as many snaps as possible. In every situation. That along with the stated plan to redshirt CV just didn’t create opportunities for CV to play. Hopefully we see a little more of him this year - not out of necessity, but because we get into a position where it makes sense to get him some experience.

The only thing that really bugs me is when Dabo is asked about Vizzina he never seems to speak with any confidence or excitement about his abilities. This kinda reinforces what I read earlier (Maybe Hood, not sure) that there were those in the program disappointed in Vizzina's development.

What more do you want him to say? When he says a guy is going to play on Sunday like he did with HJ, y’all call him delusional. If he doesn’t gush on a guy he must be trash. If he’s middle of the road it’s coach speak. If he says CV is great, y’all will demand someone ask why he’s not starting ahead of Cade. Some people just gonna complain about anything a coach says.

Clemson had less QB1 at an elite D1 program starting experience to start the season last year.
This year is not the case.

despite the highly adopted Sales Man notions and narrative that super senior benchwarmer QBs in the lockerroom add value, this QB room is better because Cade is now better. The loss of those senior guys has had zero negative impact.

So it would likely trigger CK to the Portal. And then there the NIL dollars. That’s the Portal / NIL conundrum.

How many teams have multiple top-tier QBs with a lot of experience?

1

Jan 24, 2024, 9:22 AM

Very very few. We are not unique at all in that regard. Physically, CV has all of the tools. If he understands the offense and can learn to read defenses, he'll be fine. Can Trent Pearman lead us to a championship? I have no idea, but he was a dang good HS QB at Daniel, and a lot of schools win with QBs with similar HS pedigrees.

I'll try to be realistic, but I have no reason to be negative about the QB situation at this point.

I agree. I think our WB situation is good, not great but reliable. The way some speak on here about Klubnik, there is not much difference between QBs 1-2-3 or 4. If we go through most of the season and we’re using #4…..we can always put in an extra tackle or TEs and just run the ball.

Actually, I would be willing to bet that every team That was in the top 10 or 12 and certainly the playoff level teams. All had talent and depth far greater than Clemson at the quarterback position.

top flight QBs are willing to ride the bench for more than a year or two max when it's so easy now to go somewhere else to play. Therefore I don't know why any team would have 3-4 playoff level QBs. And we really have no idea how good or bad CV is; we can only assume that he wasn't better than CK.

Well, compare him to other QB's in the ACC. I don't know if he can get better than he is and right now he is not top 5 in our league IMO. I have never seen another QB anywhere who runs into a sack or has more intentional groundings than CK. I say let's let him hand the ball off without that RPO disaster from last year that sent #1 to the pros.

It doesn't matter what the QB did in high school or in the Elite 11 or in the Spring Game. If they are 2/3 years into their collage career and don't have "it", then you have to get another one. There is no time to develop QB's anymore. The only solution is to get a guy who can start and win on day one -which is almost certainly going to be from the Portal. Unless you are Ohio State and want to pay everyone 2 million to be backups, you will not have a room like Clemson did in 2018.
