"Wakey Leaks" Shane Beamer

Did anyone read The Athletic's article entitled "Inside ‘WakeyLeaks,’ the scandal that should have rocked college football?" Several years ago, Wake Forest had its entire playbook leaked to at least three teams. A former assistant had contact with coaches from other schools who accepted his information and used it against Wake. It was obvious during the games that the opposing schools knew every play in advance.

Wake Forest, the smallest Power 5 school in the country, played with one arm tied behind its back after a betrayal from within.
It's behind a paywall, but here are a couple of excerpts:

"There were records of phone calls to opposing coaches: a 25-minute call with Galloway the Wednesday before the Louisville game; another with Shane Beamer, then an assistant at Virginia Tech, the night before Wake played the Hokies in 2014."

"There were records of emails and faxes, according to sources, including a lengthy one to Jay Bateman, another former Wake coach who was then the defensive coordinator at Army. Elrod, according to a source, diagrammed Wake’s plays and sent them off to opposing coaches."

sad that these teams didn’t have the confidence in their own abilities to beat wake forest. They thought they had to cheat to win.

If I was a player on one of those opposing teams i’d have been ticked my coaches didn’t think my team could beat wake.

VT game in 2014?

To add insult to injury, VT still lost. That was the weird game that went 0-0 in regulation and ended 6-3 in OT2 in Wake's favor. Must have been only the offensive half of the playbook that leaked. Funny that Shane cheated and still lost!
