Pac-12 off to an absolutely abysmal start

I think they are something like 1-3 at the moment, about to go 1-4 with Oregon State losing to VCU, and a possible 1-5 if Hawaii can maintain their lead over Cal.
Meanwhile, the Big 10 has been pretty underwhelming thus far, especially with Mid TN handling MSU at the half. The Big 12 has been OK, and the SEC has been nowhere to be found, unsurprisingly.
Meanwhile, the little ol' ACC is undefeated at 5-0 with two more games to be played between Pitt and Wisconsin and Mich vs. Notre Dame. Wouldn't be surprised at all for the ACC to take both of those games as well.
Which is all very confusing when it comes to Clemson basketball. It is truly mind-boggling that we can't handle some these smaller teams at the beginning of the year, but manage to come out with a winning record in what I believe is the best conference in the nation. That's what puts Brownell in the hot seat IMO. Clearly, we are proving capable of beating elite competition. So losing to the Gardner-Webbs of the world doesn't hold water.
Just saying.

We generally play to the level of our competition for whatever reason. We will play a Duke, Cuse, Miami, etc. and play solid fundamental basketball but then play Minnesota, UMass, etc. and just make mistake after mistake and go through horrendous scoring droughts.
That's the most frustrating thing with Brownell's tenure here.

I posted something last night about up-to-date conference performance and had somebody get way overly defensive then as well.
These are facts. Everything I said was an objective observation. The ACC is doing well in the tournament this year, and obviously did well last year as well. This begs the question of why Clemson is able to do fairly well in conference play but fail to succeed in early out-of-conference competition.
There is a difference between examining statistical trends and saying "yeah dood Clemzon is the best because the ACC is doing so well. Whoo! We are clearly the best!!!!3424". No, Clemson is not very good. However, it appears the ACC, as a conference, is.
I just find it interesting the seemingly growing disparity between our in-conference and out-of-conference results.

I certainly agree. And nothing wrong with tooting the ACC horn

We surely get a shitload of that from the SEC in football. As for our lackluster performance in the non-conference games, that really the downfall of Brownell. Really, the biggest difference between Brownell & Purnell is the non-conference. Purnell would go 15-1 in non-conference, than 8-8 in ACC, and everyone was happy with that 23-9 record. Brownell goes 8-6 in non-conference & 10-8 in ACC, and that 18-14 record doesn't look so good. Certainly won't get you in the tournament. If it was a one year thing, would be one thing, but it's pretty much every year. '

Conference perception in basketball is actually a tangible thing. Sometimes it can determine whether you get in (Syracuse/Pitt) or if you are left out (usuc).
Better perceived conferences get more teams in than lesser ones. In football it doesn't matter as much, baseball is kind of here or there.

Their RPI # was abysimal.....Clemson was the strongest OOC game on their schedule and it was a very down year for the SEC (even Kentucky was barely above mediocre)
