“A fan base is ruined if they’re upset when you blow out another team, but not ‘bad enough’. “
He was a Tennessee fan, and that’s exactly the way their fan base behaved in the 90s. If they were even in a game with a lesser team in the third quarter, they wanted to fire Phil. Well they did fire Phil and have spent almost 20 years in the desert.
If you were under a rock, and unable to watch the Clemson game Monday night, and I told you we went on the road, to Atlanta, and beat a conference opponent in Georgia Tech 41-10, and you had no other information, would you be upset? Of course you wouldn’t. We Clemson fans really do need to examine our behavior, and take a deep breath

Very well said. Too many early season games where we struggled and went on to succeed to amazing achievements for me to say anything different

very sloppy, bad play in a game against a lesser opponent.

‘Firing Dabo’ is not my point. My point is, we clobber another opponent, and there’s nothing but complaining it seems

I haven't seen much complaining on TNet about a 31 point victory. That seems to be an issue with the AP Poll voters.

Is there a different Tigernet than the one I’m looking at? Just asking for a friend

People are worried about the offense being bad again. They want a National Title. They are looking at the bigger picture. We should be able to put up 49 offensive pts on those scrubs.

When did he say this?

Because I think in the 90s, people hadn’t started saying “fan base” yet.
That was back when we were still just regular old fans.

True, but as you said - "if you didn't watch the game".....

because there are different types of "41-10 games". (1) Your team comes out executing well and looks sharp, against a vastly inferior opponent, and dominates right from get-go. You build up a 27-0 halftime lead, get the 2nd and 3rd stringers into the game, and the other team scores 10 points in garbage time. (2) Your lead is only 14-10 deep into the 3rd quarter, you see the exact same tendencies that lead to us to having the 100th ranked offense last year, and you're actually worried about the outcome of the game. This despite TWO BLOCKED PUNTS, an interception on the first play of the game, and a stifling defense that is shutting them down.
Agree or disagree?

I lived in TN when the Vols fired Fulmer.

UcheaT made the CCG the year before Phat Phil was fired. I was dating a precious little country gurl who was a passionate UT fan. When she told me about Fulmer being fired I laughed and said, y'all are going to regret that.
Her UT fans bragged to me about hiring Lame Kitten and I laughed knowing that though he was in communication with Clemson that Clemson would never hire a heathen like Lane. I laughed again, and again and again and still laughing.
Clemson is not fairly represented on this board. Most of the dumpers here are fairweather friends who read criticisms on other websites and dump it here as if the thoughts were their own.
If they had an original thought it would give them a headache so bad they wouldn't be able to see to post it.

How quickly people forget the Tommy Bowden days when no matter the opponent on the first game of the year we would struggle. It didn't matter if it was Furman, SC State, Western Carolina, you name it. The first couple of games were always way too close for me. The Vegas spread at kickoff of this game was around -24. We beat that by 7. Everybody was getting acclimated, we got better as the game wore on. Even the teams with DW and TL weren't clicking the first game of the season. Its time to take a deep breath and enjoy the season. Go Tigers!

Why is that? Why do teams like Alabama, ga, “usually” OSU and Oklahoma etc. look like world beaters in week one, and we look like we haven’t seen each other until we got on the bus.
Are they really practicing more than the rules allow? More scrimmages? They’ll trot out a freshman qb and be talking heisman, and we are hoping our 3rd year guy can manage a zone read.

When the D’s stack the line they’ll stop the run, daring you to pass. Sometimes, passing sets up the run by backing away the D. Our coaches didn’t have the confidence to do so. If you didn’t watch the game, 41-10 looks great and you’d think we rolled with ease. However, no points in the 1st and a 4 point game mid- 3rd tells/shows a different story and what everyone saw. The last 5 minutes gave everyone hope of an undefeated run in the ACC and the CFP.

Pretty sure "the fans" didn't ruin TN football. There were a combination of factors made worse by their laughably incompetent "leaders"
