Trust the Process: LaVonta Bentley making most of his opportunities

Redshirt freshman linebacker showed up on Clemson’s campus in 2019 and quickly realized he had a long way to go before becoming an impact performer in defensive coordinator Brent Venables’ complex defense. Instead of letting it get him down, he simply lowered his head and went to work and trusted the process. Full Story »

All high school seniors should hear Bentley's words. There are a lot of recruits that don't go to the programs that they would like to go to the most bc, programs like a Clemson won't promise them immediate playing time, and the programs that do, they are so bad that anybody is an improvement, or they get lied to!!!

Elite high school players are so use to being told how good they are, and that they will be a starter from the time they set foot on campus, and that never happens bc, the difference in the way college is played from HS, is day and night difference. Even when they are told they will have to work their way into a college lineup, they still believe they are such a good HS player, that it won't be an adjustment for them, and they want to play right now.

When they are told that they're not ready, they start looking for the door of the transfer portal, and that is why the transfer portal is so bad for college coaches and the recruits just coming into the college game. IMO, HS coaches should start conditioning their elite players in their senior year that the college plays, and the college training and conditioning for playing is like learning to play FB all over again.

Sure there are some that are almost ready for the college game when they get there, but most of those guys has a dad or uncle that played college FB that has done some of the training and conditioning for those kids before the get to college, and those are the ones that get early college freshman snaps. But I think that Mitch Hyatt is about the only freshman that I remember starting from day one, and that was bc there wasn't really much of a choice at that time. But I do think that the rules of the transfer portal must be redone for the sake of college FB and the recruits that just isn't ready to play when they get to college. Do like LaVonta Bentley, and they will play, and they will look like they know what they're doing when they get to see the field!!!

Enjoyed the story on this hard working young man. Love Bentley's work ethic & future potential and his tip of the hat to Skalski.

Look no further than hard working stay-the-course BJ Goodson to identify a Clemson starter who waited for his time and now earns a healthy NFL salary. Go Bentley! Go Tigers!
