It's amazing how many people here make all sort of excuses for football when we lose, but when it's egregious officiating affecting our basketball team is supposed to overcome it.

You just keep repeating the same ones over and over without ever acknowledging poor coaching. Your excuses are not why we have been mediocre (at best). It all boils down to coaching consistency. The team panicking late against Duke matches Brads historically proven tendency to choke in tight games. The turnovers at the end cost us the game, not the calls after those turnovers.

They were down 12 points and battled back to take a 4 point lead.
The inbounds pass that was stolen was a bad play, but I didn't have a problem with the other passes that were intercepted later. One of them we got fouled and it wasn't called. The other was a great play by Duke. They happen.
We forced Duke to make mistakes during the last few minutes as well. Why aren't you saying that they panicked?
I know, because you're ridiculously hard on our team, and expect them to overcome horrible officiating to win a game against one of the best teams in the country. That's ridiculous. Are you actually a Clemson basketball fan?

I'm so tired of seeing us lose games due to the officiating in NC. Filipowski got "fouled" every time he jumped into someone with an orange jersey. And he got away with about a dozen more fouls beyond the 5 they actually called. Maybe that's why he's supposed to be good?
Clemson got hosed something proper, and without the courtesy of a reach around.

Get us out of this #### lousy excuse for a “conference!” There are no relationships worth keeping up anymore, and I’m sure there will be no love lost on Clemson from any of the NC schools either. Can’t we all just agree to part ways agreeably? Without all the legal gobbledygook and Grant of Rights and threats and financial penalties? ACC, I think it’s time we broke up.

But themselves. I watched him yelling at his players and correcting their positions and immediately our players turned the ball over 3 times in a row as they were flustered . What an impotent mind set. Our players had that game in the palm of their hands. I hope more of you aren’t like the younger generation who you accuse of having victim mindsets. Same thing here. We had it won and didn’t.

Proctor tries to split the double team and bumps Beadle back, nothing there. Proctor takes a few steps, nothing there. Proctor goes up with one second left and gets the touch call. Two free throws, game time.
Never except at Duke do refs call the final play inside the last couple seconds. Never in HS, never in the NBA, only the ACC refs in NC.
The ref had his lungs filled with air as soon as Duke brought the ball inbounds. Let the players decide the game!
ESPN was in such a hurry to go to the Kentucky game. Every play during the game had multiple angles. Final play is never looked at except from behind. Color man is #### sure it's a foul without seeing the original bump back.

Both can be true dude. Yes, we need to show more poise and close out games, and yes, we still would have won with fair officiating. You would need to coach up and fix the former either way. And, if the officiating had been equally called on both ends, a couple of those turnovers would have been fouls on Duke.
Late in games, the ball should be in the hands of Girard, Hall, or Chase, and that’s it. Every offensive possession should be taken to the rim for higher percentages and potential fouls.

I'm guessing you don't.
We got hosed by the officials, not just on the last play, but on about a dozen plays in the game.
It's way more than any team should have to overcome, and the league office needs to hear from Clemson loud and clear.

Sure there were a couple of bogus calls there at the very end, but, we had a 4 point lead with about a couple of minute left in the game and BB decides to play keep away 3 straight possessions and getting the ball stole on all 3 keep away possessions over just taking the ball to the basket and get points or a chance of getting fouled. Running the shot clock completely out would have been better than playing keep away and risking the ball being taken away 3 straight times in a row. The end of that game was the hands down the worse coaching I've ever seen, it couldn't have been better plan for losing a game. IMO the game wasn't stole, the offensive call by the coach gave the game away with a 4 point lead....

I agree 100%! We had every opportunity to win the game multiple times in spite of inferior gameplan to attack Dukes weaknesses. Duke over plays on defense and ball movement can expose that. Duke shot so bad at the line, we should have won walking away. Bad officiating always has and always will happen. Good teams overcome the refs. Dabo HS learned how to do it. Brad doesn’t have a clue. His record speaks for itself, 3 NCAA and four NIT’s in fourteen years. That’s pitiful.

Was an absolute shame what happened this afternoon.
Should go down in history as one of the worst officiated games of all time. An investigation should be made. A clinic on how to to NOT properly call a game.
I feel really bad for our guys. Hope they can rebound from this.

I ask you. Being honest, how much of this article, brownell, neff holding girard back , and TB Twitter posts would have been the narrative? None.
The narrative would have been printed that Tigers historical comeback in an instant hard fought dub.
Cuts both ways. We won a game against uab early this season on what could have been called a travel by hunter and instead uab got a foul called when hunter wasn't even touched. Think I'll take a quality L vs a really bad L.

I thought the refs totally messed up the call on the last play of the game, since the Duke player walked, pushed off not once but TWICE, and then faked being fouled. That alone was bad.
BUT, my real issue is that the officiating was horrible all game. Most of the fouls they called on PJ and Ian were when they were holding their ground with their hands up, and the Duke player initiated contact. Those should not have been fouls on us.
If the officials decided to call those as fouls, they should have called them on the other end as well, but they didn't.
The technical foul on Clark in the first half was ridiculous.
Girard being shoved to the ground going for a rebound should've been called as well.
It's all so ridiculous.
It was disgusting to hear Scheyer talk after the game about how there were questionable calls both ways. Yes, there were about 2 or 3 questionable calls against Duke, and at least 15 against us. Scheyer needs to shut his ugly face.

It was waaay more than the end of the game foul called on Beadle, after the no call for walking, or Ian's last 2 fouls, or last second no call for hammering PJ. Good Lord, if Tim Bourret tweets about officiating, it's real.

Those are some disturbing calls for sure...The worst is the final foul because it literally took the win away, because Clemson is up by 1 with no time left. That might have been the worst foul call I have ever seen considering it was the last play in a 1 point game. The Clemson defender played good defense the whole way through the play. As the Duke player drives he initially pushes off with his left hand which is a foul on the dukie...this creates no space, so the duke player pushes off even more blatantly with his right hand, which is a very clear foul on the dukie... then with .4 seconds left he basically heaves the ball up in exasperation because he couldn't create space against solid defense, and gets completely bailed out by the ref.

In a nutshell Brownell defines his entire career at Clemson. And most likely defines his entire future career at Clemson--perhaps with one or two shining moments like 0-59 becoming 1-59--for however much longer we're going to be saddled with him.
In other words, SSDD. More of the same. Definition of insanity and all that.
I recall being told that this was Brownell's best team ever. Heavy with experience, and leadership. All-American PJ Hall returning. Added a transfer portal 3-point assassin (now in top 3 all time NCAA 3-point baskets made). Pretty well cruised through early season games, with Memphis loss a not-too-embarrassing blemish. Beat ranked Alabama on the road. A "lock" for NCAA tournament.
Now, having lost 5 of last 7, and including a Quad 3 loss to Ga Tech, we stand alone solidly in 10th place in the ACC, 3-5. Somehow still in play in Bracketology, despite ACC being predicted to send only 3 teams. Still have games like at UNC, only 4 games against teams below us in the standings (and having already lost at home to Ga Tech, have to play them in Atlanta). Plus return matches against other teams that have already beaten us (Va Tech, Miami). That "lock" seems more and more flimsy.
Will we see a repeat of last year, where a loss to Louisville at home derails the season? I sure hope not. We need to go 7-5 over the last 12 games to come out at 10-10 (.500) in ACC play. We'll need to go 11-1 to match last year's output of 14-6, and we know we got "snubbed" last year even with that record.

Just watched the final play several more times. Proctor not only walked, but like others have said he put his right forearm on Beadle and pushed him off right before the shot. It should have been walking, a n offensive foul, or a no call ..... only three correct options.
That said, we just need to stop putting ourselves in that position when we are in a position to win. That's coaching and poor decisions from players. Sometimes it is OK for a coach to call timeout and remind his players what the simple things they are supposed to be doing are.

This is it, anyone who’s been watching Clemson basketball as long as I have, knows if the refs have the opportunity to bail out Duke in Cameron, it’s going to happen. Brownleigh knows this, if you’re up one with seven seconds left, you foul the inbound pass immediately put them on the line, force them to make two free throws, and then you get the ball for the last shot and they can’t foul you. It’s the only way you’re going to win that game. A coach with half a brain should know this and do what I just said. Unfortunately all Brownell can do is yell and then whine about the officiating.

You mean the one where we are up by 1 point at the end of the game against Duke, at their place, where we haven't won in over two decades?
That win in the mid-90s was against one of the worst Duke teams in the last 40 years, by the way.
Most Clemson basketball teams aren't ever in that position against Duke. The fact that we were, especially after being down by double digits, is a testament to our players and coaches.
Yet you and others here find a way to bash them and act like they should've done better. Unbelievable.
