Time to tighten things up a notch....

May 27, 2013, 10:05 AM

Part of it is my fault: the combination of work and being in a funk over the last week in baseball let me drop my guard here.

But after folks on this board railed about Deshaun Watson for going to Auburn's Big Cat Weekend ... when he never went anywhere ... snapped me back into reality.

The reality is we've got some folks here who want to believe the worst, and we've got folks here who are happy to feed it to them: true or not. In the past, we've had plenty of people who would step up and challenge the claim. But in the wake of Sammy's arrest last year and RN's and Montravious's defections this spring, the will to fight seems to have wavered among the faithful.

That's all the agents of Caponism and Dawgism and the other false doctrines of SEC worship need to splinter us.

And we cannot let it happen.

So, when plants that sort of seed, don't react by calling them a coot immediately. The fruit of their labors will be apparent soon enough. Challenge the message before denigrating the messenger.

In the case of Watson, it can easily be traced back to Auburn recruiting web sites. And I hope the folks who found it there and posted it here are actively seeking a retraction from the Auburn sites. I would, but I'm not willing to pay 8 cents a month, much less $8, for baseless rumors.

And if you post it here, count on getting challenged. We are all subject to make mistakes, but if so, we should be man enough to own up. This was no mistake: this was an attempt to slander a young man who will be an outstanding Son of Clemson.

And I will not have the Sons of Clemson slandered without citing source.

It's that simple.

In MHO, you can't be an Orange Blooded Tiger and buy into this stuff. As a Tiger, I don't want young men on this team that are not "head to toe" Clemson committed.

It's fun to follow all the recruiting but remember that "heart can outplay talent but talent is limited without heart".

We won't get all of the ones we would like to have but let's be sure that when we do they are CLEMSON true.
