I believe we’re closer than you might think already.

I agree. We can’t continue to pay high salaries, provide remarkable perks to all teams, and maintain facilities race on “reasonable” ticket prices.

We are about to get relocated in favor of pricey club/zone seats after being IPTAY members and season ticket holders for over 30 years. And alumni and putting our children through Clemson. There is no loyalty from Clemson, only a desire for more money. I think it will backfire. And to think, I was going to put Clemson in my will.

Very true summary by ND fan. Last time we had attendance below 70K that I remember was Wests last year 1998 had games with 61, 62 and 63K.

That is a fair assessment of a situation that is happening everywhere. Ticket prices are ridiculously high, and many (including Clemson fans who don't have access to the ACCN) have no TV access to several games a year.

Fans away. If you dont take care of the true fans, this will happen. ‘89 grad here and Clemson priced me out several years ago. Still love the Tigers and watch on TV, but lucky if I make it to a game once every two yesrs. I have discovered that there are other important things I can do with my time on Saturdays as well.

I am right there with you. Priced me out several years ago as well. I also think we have a less attractive home game schedule with the ACC expansion than in the "good old days." We went from 5 or 6 home games to 7, so cost went up as a result, but we get cupcakes.

without Dabo, I can see problems. Currently, our players are remarkable, on and off the field. That is not true at most other schools. If we go back to the days of the all about me player, I'm done with it, same as I am with NFL.

As long as we are an elite team, big money will pay and push out the common folks. Once we start to falter, big money will leave and the faithful who stayed thru thick and thin before we were pushed out, won’t be around anymore to pick up the slack.

Similar to what NASCAR has experienced after the expansion tracks $ grab.

Very loyal ‘69 grad here. Lucky to be able to afford 1 game (4tkts +decent parking spot)/yr. Meals, tailgate & hotel for 2 nights>$1500. And forget about CFP tickets at $4-500/ seat for nosebleed. Just not worth it anymore.

Unfortunately all of these schools ADs wash their hands of the ticket pricing and force the secondary markets of Stubhub etc to set the real ticket price. They are still 100% complicit in causing swaths of empty seats. Look at Vandy, Wake and others who have no hopes of a sellout for most games but still set the price unrealistically.

Lots of whiny fans everywhere. Clemson has'em. Notre Dame has'em. Everyone has'em.
There is always a constant with whiny fans; "Things used to be better." 99% of the time about 99% of the things mentioned, the way back was not better. It was worse.
I'm 71 and watched my first game in 1955. I have seen most games since 1968. We posted losing seasons for 8 of the first 9 years after I started school. Coach Howard banned people from sitting or standing on the hill because he thought they were a distraction. An average home game brought in 30,000 people. We never played on TV. Went almost 20 years without a bowl game. Most people in the state had never seen us play.
We had no black players for decades. Lots of people, especially old people who didn't like the way the world was changing were slow to accept black students, much less black players. Some of us were paternalistic and tolerated blacks on campus, but mostly we saw them as different.
Game tickets were easy to come by because not many people wanted to drive all the way to Clemson for a game.
Things got better starting in the mid-70s, of course, but fans complained then about ticket prices being too high, about rich people getting the best seats, about not playing Dixie and so forth. We had great seasons in 77, 78, slumped some in 79 and had all sorts of trouble in 80. More than a few people wanted to fire Coach Ford. More than a few people did not like a black player beating out a white guy at QB.
Probation sucked. We were on it twice in the 80s. National tV talkers painted Lil' Ole Clemson as an outlaw school. Were those the good old days?
No, the good old days were not universally good at Clemson.
And the good old days were not universally good at Notre Dame either. Not so long ago, the Irish fired 7 football coaches in about 20 years. One guy won a Natty and was run off a few years later.
So, we have bad whiny fans now. We'll always have bad whiny fans who think the good ole days were so much better. I was there. They good old days were not all that good.
Go Tigers!!

It's human nature to look back at the past through rose colored glasses. We are wired to mostly remember the good and forget the bad, which makes it easy to think "things were so much better back then." Often there were just as many, if not more, problems as we face today.

Yes, but I think that’s kind of the point.

Clemson is taking the big money from the bandwagon people now since Clemson is cool. If Clemson is ever not so cool again, the admin will be looking around wondering where all the loyal and passionate people went.
It’s like turning your back on your real friends because a few of the cool kids talked to you one day at school. Soon enough, you may be left without any of them.

problem. It's ideology. My son is a senior at Clemson and I've been disappointed. It's not the school that I went to anymore. But it's 99% of US universities, not just Clemson. I cancelled my season tickets this year and sent the athletic department an email. No response. I'm small potatoes. They won't miss me.
