The salary cap makes these decisions so much tougher. Guys on rookie deals are making way less money than veterans. If the dolphins commit to giving Wilkins a longterm deal it also means a large pay raise and will require them to cut other players to get back under the cap.

performance standpoint, there is no way you allow Wilkins to walk in free agency. Stuff like this actually makes me mad. Teams take all this time to draft good talent, develop it, and then the front office lets it walk away to save money on the bottom line, never mind that it hurts the team on the field.

league in general….makes teams have to be really really smart to stay on top, allows bad teams ample changes to get good and gets players the contracts the market will pay.

I, and many of the fanbase, want him back.

However, looks like the price to keep him may be too high - UGH hate to see it. I was stoked when the Phins drafted him and was hopeful we could keep him for a long time.

During the time they were using him at a low rate price, they should have been planning a way to keep him when the time came that they had to pay him what he was worth...
