Wouldn’t he think that they almost surely don’t even know who he is or his friends? Unless he was doing this over FB or IG.

Ryan Last received a message on a school night in February from someone he believed to be a girl.

Couple of things here.

1) One of the most important conversations to have with your kids is do not, under any circumstance, share a naked photo of yourself. Not only do you have to assume that whatever you share will be shared, kids have been hit with felonies for manufacturing kiddie stuff for taking/sharing naked selfies. Even possessing a photo of your underage girlfriend can get you a heavy charge. No good will ever come of it. (this is not a bad idea for adults, either.)

2) Parents of tweens/teens should really consider ensuring, to 100% of confidence, firearms cannot be accessed, no matter how well your kids normally respect their danger.

a family as one can seem from a quick article, I'm going to guess that they had that talk with him, and he sent the pic anyway. With the Eagle Scout background, I'm guessing he had the "you can screw your future up with one text" conversation many times----great knowledge to convey, but it shouldn't stand on it's own. Quite possibly, that talk spurred his panic.

The other, even more important talk, is establishing with your kids that there's nothing too big for them to come to you with when they need help. You just hope your kid knows that they can off up so royally it's not funny, and you'll still be there for them.
