This is getting out of hand!

Nov 1, 2012, 3:46 PM

I just received an email from the HR department here at work asking all of us to take part in a "get well" picture for Marcus Lattimore. I'm sorry the young man got hurt. I know he is supposed to be a great guy. But he is just a football player. Plenty of players all over the country get hurt every year. Some go through the rehab and make it back, some don't. Some are just as good of a role model, player and person and some aren't even close. But they all share one thing in common. They got hurt playing a game that is entertainment for the masses. It's not life and death no matter what we might think when our team wins or loses on any given Saturday. My problem with all of this "Marcus Lattimore Day" and stuff like this email is that he is being held up on a pedestal over guys like Marcus Luttrell, Daniel Rodriguez, etc. that have been hurt in the line of duty. When any player (or anyone for that matter) straps on a battle helmet, body armor, etc., leaves the country they've always know and lived in for a tour of duty in a hellhole like Iraq away from their loved ones and then gets hurt in any way I will then gladly pose for a "get well" photo for them. But not for this. The sad thing is that I think Marcus Lattimore is a good kid and hates all the attention his injury is getting. He didn't ask for any of this and probably regrets how it's been handled. I hope he gets better and makes it back on the football field better than before. Until then I will continue to pray for him and his family just like Coach Swinney.

Your HR manager is obviously a coot. Ask if there will be a Darius Robinson get well picture, too.
